ONT? That's funny. We have 2 flights a day out of there, to DEN and MCO.

Let me tell you a little story about our sure thing PHX base that never happened. We were days away from announcing the new base in PHX. The chief pilots were told PHX, there were agreements with the airport for a crew and pretty much everything was set in stone. That week the big wigs went out to lunch and came back and decided to switch it to Vegas at the last minute because it would be cheaper for them. That’s how these guys operate. They go back and forward on an idea and make a concrete decision at the very last second usually based on cost. Moral of the story is RDU and AUS are front runners forsure but we don’t know which one it will be or if it’s something else because even the people making the decisions are not sure yet.

ReserveCA nailed it.......money counters not in the habit of managing an airline......that’s why we get the motley crew of vagabonds inflicted on us....let’s hope Jimaaaaaay departing is a sign of their imminent exit..........and pray a worse hydra does not appear......

IMHO.....

I am thinking long term, and when I am older, I would like to be able to drop trips so I can take a nap on my sofa instead of flying. I heard something about being able to drop your credit to 60-70 hours. Is that true? If so, is there language in the contract that allows the company to say, nope not enough coverage!
Also, what is the commuter policy? Any minimum daily guarantee hours?

Thx

Happy

PS I know the minimum guaranteed days off, but Ive heard that junior people are getting 15-18 days off per month. Any truth in that?

Yes, you must finish the bid with 70 hours except for 6 months out of the year (specific months determined by the company in advance) you can drop to 60.

Yes, in order to drop a trip, the reserve coverage must meet particular thresholds for the days in question. So far not too much of a problem. Once in a while a weekend, or a holiday is hard to drop into. Who knows how well this continues to work with the advent of PBS, and if hiring ever slows.

Yes, we have a min 5 hour duty period (not day) rig. However, if the trip is modified by a pilot, for example a pilot splits off a 4 hour turn from the beginning or end of a bigger trip, the rig will not apply and that duty period will only pay the 4 hours.

Yes, I find it entirely possible jr people can get 15 to 18 days off, what they are crediting with 18 off is the question.

Just to clarify, this is slightly misleading. We have a 5 hour AVERAGE minimum credit per duty period. So, a two day trip with 8 hours of credit on the first day and 2 hours on the second day would only pay 10 hours - not 13.

100% correct. I failed to spell that out, thank you.

This is true within 4 days of the trip in question. Before that, it’s not subject to reserve coverage but rather a predetermined max number of duty periods in open time for a particular day (seat and base specific). For example MCO is almost always max 7 on weekdays and max 5 on weekends. As long as there are less than 5 open duty periods for a particular weekend day (which since the contract passed is NOT a problem) you’re free to drop. Basically since the new contract passed getting time off is not the problem. It’s getting more credit that has been the issue. Open time is full of garbage. The good trips don’t stay in open time longer than about 3 minutes, literally.
