I agree, red eyes are a huge part of the pre-covid model and I don’t imagine they’ll just go away. They’re going to need layovers to support a red eye heavy route structure. Like I said, BL has mentioned in several of my RGS’s that he likes the allegiant day trip model, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any 2-3-4 day trips in the future.
However, with 3 bases in FL now and the close proximity of the other east coast bases, I think we will see more of a shift to shorter trips (1-2 days as majority) if they keep up opening bases everywhere. Just my 2cents

Correct, I’ve got a couple Allegiant guys in my crash pad. Red eye turns..brutal. We’re starting to see the same thing at Frontier. Ex. MIA-DEN-MIA or ORD-LAS-ORD. Leave around 22:00 back at 07:00. High credit but definitely not for everyone.

We only have a handful of them. Trips like show in LAS at 2200 then do a RT to ATW or SBN. Those are brutal. For a while we had SFB-ABQ-SFB and SFB-ELP-SFB with a 2200 show in SFB. I'd say maybe 1% of our trips are redeye.

It doesn't seem possible to make lease payments on brand new A321's with just day turns and no redeyes. The frame needs to be flying all day long, especially with ULCC covid fares. Allegiant can make day turns work because the planes are old and the cost is a fraction of a new plane. The Allegiant fleet does 6-7 hours per day (as mentioned on the earnings call last week), and no flying on Tuesday.

At the latest recruiting event, they emphasized moving toward a more "modular network" with an emphasis on 1- and 2-day trips for the future. Are they primarily red eye turns or is there a good mix of both day turns and redeye turns?

It depends on the base and all future bases and flying locations. You can count on almost anything West to East having a redeye attached to it in some fashion. Normally its a good mix of days in the bid packet, but with PBS most of the day trips dont hit open time. I know ORD redeyes are super productive (6.5-7.5) which makes them a money maker for the people who want them. DEN has a DEN-ONT-MCO night flight that pays very well. If you are ok with the redeyes you can make money.
