Aero Crew News says Frontier is going to get E3 Visa (Australian) pilots but I can't find any information at all
Assuming this is true, it sure appears the company is going for the "all of the above" answer to the pilot shortage. 121 guys, 135 guys, ATP, Riddle and Purdue guys, and apparently Australia guys.
There can't possible be all that many qualified Australia pilots?

There's heavy jet captains working as CFIs and 100 applicants for every 1 turboprop job in Australia now. Add to that the frustration of 1-5000 hour pilots being turned down for the right seat while 250hour cadets get in, there's probably a lot of qualified and willing pilots.
However this E3 ad and some others (Avelo, Atlas, Spirit) seems to be targeted towards Australians with an FAA ATP already in the US on an E3 Visa- that pool is probably no more than 150 people at the moment.

- Must be an Australian National
- Must possess the necessary academic and/or additional qualifying requirements to obtain an E3 Visa
- Must be able to obtain an E3 Visa to work in the United States
- If hired, must be able to demonstrate that you are authorized to work in the US

Yes but also part of the requirements are holding an ATP- I wouldn't imagine there are too many Australian FAA ATP holders who have not flown on a E3 Visa. Also I could be wrong but I don't think Frontier are providing ATPCTP here?
Another thing that makes E3s attractive to LCCs is they can't be poached by a major/legacy. Used to be the case for E3s at the regionals but now they have more opportunities and are leaving during training/first year just like locals.

I would not hold my breath on that one. I've recently been seeing some of the most bizarre individuals I've ever encountered in the entirety of my career getting picked up by the big 3. They are extremely close to the bottom of the regional candidate pool if they aren't already there.

But I really don't understand why Frontier feels they need to resort to this, when they're going to become the fifth largest airline in the US... Last time I checked there are many, many qualified and great regional pilots eager to get out of the regionals.

it, they are just trying to stay ahead of the shortage. Im sure this Visa program will only provide a small percentage of applicants just like the University programs have.
