This happened to some extent last round to a lesser degree and it didn’t become public.
In an attempt to save $ in negotiations Alpa decided to save costs on hotel rooms by replacing two chi grievance members with a den Pilot. These two chi pilots were putting in 30-40 hrs of work a week mostly on days off because there was very little fpl to go around. This den pilot wasted a bunch of time arguing with legal (Yale law school grad), wanting to employ a new software grievance tracking system, (after everyone had been trained on Alpa’s system). It goes on and on the time this guy wasted. He didn’t do anything grievance related and didn’t know the contact pretty much at all.
I would get calls from reps. What’s up with this guy? I would tell them bring back the chi members and drop half their schedule if necessity because this guy is going to cost the group millions because you wanted to save a few hundred a month in hotel costs. That eventually happened. The guy was removed.
This feels a bit similar but much worse. And it should have never went public.

When I say it should have never went public I’m implying it should have been resolved way before that happened.

Now that’s resolved don’t lose site of the big pic. Mediation is not the time to start pinching Pennie’s and making sympathetic statements about the company’s financial position at the table. Even if you believe that you don’t back yourself or your negotiators into negotiating from that position. Amateur hr. When a contract is ratified alpa is going to shrink most committee and blow up others. That’s the time for cost savings.

Yeah, and then he said there was going to be a bloodbath amongst the legacies and we wish them luck, the reversal of fortune was around the corner…and then he sent a video from a lavatory…go Barry!

Thats all background noise. A distraction. Kind of like when a fa comes up to so your fo/captain can take a bathroom break and starts telling you his/her life story.

I think we should all be very concerned with what is happening with the LECs. Call your reps, have a chat and decide what you want to do.
The expression about changing horse mid-race comes to mind. I think the actions of the LEC reps for 165 and 169 are going to send us back to the start of negotiations with the NMB and cost us all a lot of money.
