Had this happened at my current company, I would not have hesitated to alert the crew and save the Pilots' certificates.

But, GoJet does GoJet things. I didn't have a clue what their policy is regarding ice. So I kept my mouth shut, trusted the PIC's judgement and saved my concern for this anonymous forum.

Thanks for the replies. In future winter seasons if I witness a GoJet crew skip the deice pad with ice/frost on the top of the wing I will raise my concerns immediately with the crew to the point of leaving my seat and knocking on the flight deck door during taxi.

Be sure to scream “alluah akbar.” Pretty sure it means “your wings are iced up.” Code language so the passengers remain calm.

These stories always smell a bit foul. What incentive does the crew have to take off without deicing?

"Hey, do you want to get paid 15 minutes extra, or should we just launch and see what happens?"
"I don't need any extra cash, let's fly".

Said no-one, ever.

let Me guess, right after sunrise, it was dew when the crew walked around, air temp was just above freezing, clear day with all coming together as frost just at takeoff.

If Gojet wants to become a decent airline, they need to stop firing everyone who takes FMLA, Military Leave, or who makes a mistake.

Message to Frosty, deice next time or you will get in trouble! Good luck at the new airline you will be at next week.
This **** happens and it’s wrong. I’ve been in the back looking at thick frost on the wing. I say something.

I can’t explain it OTHER than they just didn’t see it. I’ve seen it happen more than once. I ask my FO is there frost. If I have a doubt I’ll go look myself.

A few years ago, Air Whisky CRJ-200, first flight of the day on a crisp spring morning at ORD. We boarded from the ramp and I was sitting in a window seat towards the back. I was in civvies and clearly saw the frosty wing when I boarded. Once inside the door I poked my head into the flight deck and said “got some frost on the wing”. The FO replied, “no worries, it’ll burn off on taxi”.

It didn’t and I was suffering from 3rd degree PF until we were established on climbout.

Excellent first post. Especially considering the fact that “a few years ago” ZW wasn’t flying into or out of ORD. We took a nice long hiatus until recently.

Still baffling why they insist on doing it. I guess if you get away with it enough times ....

Then that one time... I seriously can’t understand either. You are not paying for the fluid. Type 1/4 all day long
