or we all can be responsible for our role in pollution and not turn it into penalties and revenues designed to line pockets, support narratives and never really fix the problem. It should have nothing to do with politics, it should be about individuals, businesses, industries and governments taking personal responsibility. Carbon-credit will not solve the pollution problem because they make money from managing the credits, just like the cancer industry will not cure cancer because they make money managing it. But hey, it’s much easier to do nothing and just hypocritically blame others because they don’t support a political point of view.

people can always feel holier-than-thou by doing nothing and yelling loudly.

Whoever told you that is clearly ignorant of the facts.
We can quibble the semantics all day. I didn’t come up with the ideas or their branding. Conservative think tanks did.
you were for it before you were against it. Lookie there’s another one from the right

how can you be responsible for your pollution in the absence of penalties to curb that behavior?

Tangent-you’re saying the health care system could cure cancer, but chooses not to??

I’m sure most of the “left” would be fully in favor of making people pay for the real externalities of their behavior. I’m not sure the “right” would do so, as they’ve fought so hard not to for decades.

Like I said, it shouldn’t be about politics but about teaching people to do the right thing, but you can’t help yourselves. Spouting a narrative requires no effort and has no other effect than to display a false social superiority.

I’m fully in favor of having businesses pay for the real externalities of their pollution. I’m not sure how that’s any narrative other than one of personal responsibility and integrity.

keep in mind that you were the one who mentioned the “left” in the comment I originally responded to. So if you want it to not be about politics, maybe don’t make it about “left”

they aren’t, but there are profiteers who benefit financially while not truly fixing the problem.

it needs to extend beyond business and include individuals. Like those who throw their stuff on the ground, trash their own neighborhoods, etc.

an example would be an environmental protest where the focus is industry but the protestors leave it trashed. That’s not a helpful mindset.

imagine hand waving away climate change because of protester litter.

and I’m not sure who argued in favor of litter, but you do you

I've heard this before a few months ago w.r.t COVID. Let's take a look at how our economy and QOL are doing right now...
