Not a problem, the bulk of AK imports come from Bulgaria, Romania,
Serbia and Poland. Russians are a low level exporter in this market. Not to mention the largest Importer of AKs has been producing entirely US built models for quite some time. There is no problem with supply.
Meanwhile in Eastern Ukraine:

I see this really as nothing more than a backdoor opportunity to pass *any* gun-control measures, conveniently under the guise of enacting economic sanctions against Russia.
Yet, anyone with half a brain knows that Russia doesn't have any economic dependency what-so-ever on our civilian recreational consumption of their small arms. The whole thing is a farce.

Sure, there is no problem with supply. But the high quality ones just got banned from further import. Thankfully, it appears that VEPR's aren't included (yet).

Yes, they are. All the other producers have been making them since the early sixties, quality in this case is largely an illusion.

I'd say don't be a girl and shoot the Garand but it sounds like you have your mind made up on the M1A lol. I shoot all three in High Power the Garand and M1A I have are just stock guns my AR is way decked out though. As a new shooter get used gear and a regular M1A. As your skills increase then you can replace the barrel with something more high end. Practice practice practice then see where you can do better typically serious High Power shooters reload their own custom loads, that's what I do but be prepared to spend lots of money on that as it's its own hobby. PM if you have any more questions.

I considered a Garand, but most of the CMP shooters at my club have given up their Garands for AR-15s. Their complaint was that all of the AR shooters were out shooting them. I have always loved the lines, looks, and history of the M-14. therein lies the desire for the M-1A. Still looking.

The AR is far easier to shoot, far more accurate, far cheaper to own and shoot and has served as the US service rifle far longer than the M1 or M14.
Don't fight the flow.

I'm already shooting an AR and it is a lot of fun. Still want the M1A. As a matter of fact....I happened to have ordered one today!

One of the world's most beautiful rifles is the presentation M14 given to President Eisenhower. It's displayed at the Springfield Armory museum.
