THIS. These guys can be über-tools, and a lot of the time are crappy sticks and weak seats. They'll step on whoever they need to to ingratiate themselves to the flavor of the day to get into a "management spot" (checkairman, OE guy, IP, etc). They'll throw their sim partner (or whoever else) under the bus in a heartbeat to make themselves "look good".

Top drawer training programs looking for IPs/Checkairmen screen for this, or weed them out of they slip through the cracks. They put out a crap product and are corrosive to any program.

Nothing like getting on the airplane in the morning and seeing the left tank at 400 LBS, the right tank at 2,700 pounds and the APU running ... or having a gate agent from another airline walk up to you randomly and asking, "hey, do you guys know how to shut down a MD80? ... the catering agents are complaining and we do not have a crew."

Was deadheading back to base to catch the last possible commute home. i walk on the UsAirways Airbus and go directly to the flightdeck to say hello and introduce myself to the Cap and F/o mainly to see what time they thought we would arrive cause i was scared i wouldnt make my commute and to see if they thought id make it. as i walk out of the cockpit this *** F/A grabs my shoulder and pulls me towards the galley where pax cant see me and says in an extremely ****ed off/arrogant/*** tone "It is Usairways company policy to show your badge to ME the F/A before EVER entering the cockpit! you MUST show me your badge and i will give it to the captain and THAN you can go see him. but otherwise YOU NEVER just WALKKKK yourself into the flightdeck that is completely unacceptable!!" --F/A Tool of the Day...

PS On the flip side i nominate the Captain and F/O for the COOL OF THE DAY. as soon as i step in they were very very nice and chatty i told them i didn't think id make my commute. The captain then says with a smile don't worry son you'll get there on time we got some extra fuel on board today. the F/O then asked me what the flight number was so he could call ops before they landed to tell them that i was on my way to my commute and to try not to leave without me. freaking awesome guys.

I've had a couple ASA FA's do that. Someone needs to change their brand of kitty litter.

It's actually required at ASA. However, most quit doing it a while back.

You should always ask the FA if its ok to enter the cockpit... I always make sure to when I'm jumpseating.

Making a big deal out of the procedure, though, seems a bit much....
