These two are kind of similar-

Walking through the automated revolving door at the airport, the photosensor randomly caused the door to stop suddenly, and my FO to nearly collide with the glass. Tool pax behind me: "I hope you guys drive the plane better than that door!" Me (flatly): "I'm not driving this door. Neither is he." Tool pax: "Aww, I was just teasing!" Yeah, **** you. I don't know what you do for a living, but how about I show up at your office and harrass you every time you spill coffee on your shirt.

At the hotel continental breakfast, I'm looking all over the place for milk to put on my cereal. I finally find it in some random, counterintuitive location. Tool lady in the lobby: "I hope you can find your way around your cockpit better than that!" Me: "I fly the same airplane every day. I stay in a different hotel every night."

The guy sitting next to me on a deadhead that was on his blackberry from about 18,000 feet. At gear extension i told him he should probably turn that off.

I always start a trip with a pair of these in my pocket. They give 'em away free at every crewbase lounge......priced specifically with pilots in mind.

As soon as I sit down at my deadhead seat (undoubtedly 37B) I make a big show of pulling them out and slowly rolling them between my two fingers and putting them in my ears. I then shove my face in a book or the copy of the USA Today with the "compliments of Hilton hotels" sticker on it. This display usually has the desired effect.

If I'm feeling particularly mischievous that day, right before I place the foamy plugs in I might turn to the Pax and say "My route is El Paso......and yes, sometimes I'm very afraid."

Works even better...

Somebody needs a Midol, I think!

Well said.

I hate flying with know-it-all captains. Everything has to be a pi$$ing match with guys like that. I've seen and made many mistakes from both seats, and see little to no need to over sensationalize it.

They are typically the guys who put in for check airmen positions as a result of their insecure need for superiority. (a.k.a. Small penis syndrome)

I think DAL does a decent job of keeping those types out of the LCA program. (From what I've seen at least)

LCA is one of those jobs where, anyone who wants the job isn't fit to have it!

Agreed, Buzz. Been around the block once or twice doing the IP/LCA gig myself.

The absolute best guys to work with are on their game, and secure with themselves. Laid back, knowledgable, willing to pass on the finer points. Nothing ever seems to go off the rails with these guys...you could be in the middle of the biggest CF this side of JFK and they're like "eh, we get there when we get there".

On the other end of the spectrum are the A type dooshes that THINK they know everything, but don't, and they have to try to prove it to everyone else. These are the micro managers and are insecure with every little thing they do. Every leg is a grudge match with the agent or ATC. These are the kind of guys that are the genesis of the joke "bah, I'm on day 8 of 3".

What about "lands rough from the right seat?"

And that sushi isn't fresh?

That works, there's just something about stepping off an airplane and bragging about your landing that boarders on toolish.
