But you know what, he was on of the nicest guys I have flown with. Did the walk around on my legs and didn't say **** when I was flying. He bought all the beer and was a pleasure to hang with. Aside from the "between the 2 of us we have xx years flying" it was a great trip.
Well hey... Enough free beer can certainly help to take the sting out anyone's ego.

I fly overseas where an over 65 guy can occupy the right seat. Recently, I flew with a F/O in this category. Our combined experience with the airlines was some 70+ years. We laughed at the prospect of announcing that to the folks in the back. They'd either evacuate the jet or bring us a set of walkers. I find it toolish is that the company required this aviator to surrender his 4th stripe and hat with the scrambled eggs. Once a skipper always a skipper. It's a title that is not to be stripped regardless of age.

It's nice to reminisce and do the math about combined years or aggregate the number of hours in our logs. At the end of the day, do passengers give a rat's a$$? Survey says.... No.

That nonsense needs to stop right away! Really?? Get over yourselves!
This is a shady-80 thing. Just like announcing the military history of the crew. Haven't had a captain do this on the 320 or 737 ever. Then again, I've never been based out of Atlanta either.

People deal with insecurity in different ways....

I think it's worth pointing out there's more than one toolish thing going on here. Like multiple turds during a single sit.

Had something similar with a UAL Airbus guy who started his PA with "in case you're wondering about your pilots today ... " and then went into a minute long ramble on his time in the military. Woman seated across the aisle from me put it best when she confusingly looked at me and went "are we supposed to care about this?"

during cruise I gave controls to my CA, telling him I would leave for the lavatory. he said okay fine but insisted that I should pee in the sink instead the toilet bowl, so it would flow overboard right away and we would save on fuel. he had done it for years....

There are pilots who don't pee in the sink?

What the heck are you flying that a few ounces of pee would make any negligible difference in fuel burn? 😄

It is accurate; and I've been in airliners for 30+ years. It's usually the same type of individual that wants to be an FFDO. (Before you reply note I said "usually")
