+1. Anyone that would say so would be the biggest tool on the planet.

That being said, I usually pack a regular light jacket, so I just put that over my uniform when I stop anywhere. Especially the liquor store

Just take the boards and wings off. Takes me 10 seconds. Then I just look like a Walmart security guard.

The military uniform (and there are restrictions on when and where you wear it) means something.

A pilot uniform is a costume, designed to inspire a sense of confidence in aunt bessie, and a sense of intimidation in belligerent drunks.

Diving to/from work I'll hang up the shirt in the back, and throw on a light jacket if I need to stop somewhere. More for comfort though, and to avoid the "are you a pilot" inquiries...

I am way too lazy and care far too less what others think (in this case judgy pilots on the interwebz) to disrobe out of the uniform for a stop by the grocery store on the way home. I have one thing in mind at that point, and it is getting home to my wife and kids.

I never minded the "are you a pilot" inquiries. That's an easy smile, "yes," and carry on.

When I taught in the sims, the lanyard said "Delta Pilot Training." The amount of times I got "oh good luck, I hope that works out for you!" was pretty funny. Once or twice I was like "oh, I actually give the training," but for the most part it was just a "thanks, me too."

Quick stop at the gas station, grocery store, drug store, etc. on your way to/from the airport? Not toolish if you happen to be in uniform.

Loitering around the food court at the mall mid-afternoon with a Jamba Juice in full uniform? Extremely toolish.

But in all cases, loose the hat! On that, I think we can all agree.

I remember an ol' timey movie where the pilot wore his uni to the country club dance. Right then and there I said "That's for me."

Anybody remember the Bob Newhart Show? Been watching old episodes on Hulu with the lady (don't ask why). For those unfamiliar, his neighbor is a "navigator on the big jets". That guy is ALWAYS in his uniform! Watched one episode the other night where he goes on a double date with Bob and his wife and he shows up at the restaurant IN UNIFORM! "Sorry im late. Just got in from Guam." C'mon man!

Seriously? I don't care what anyone thinks of me in my uniform. I've stopped by many stores and restaurants both to and from work. Most people are oblivious and don't notice, and the ones who do are usually nice and sometimes just curious.
