Don't always assume it's the FO. I've had more than one jack wagon captain (you'll notice the lowercase 'c') grab the mic and shoot their mouth off in one idiotic fashion or another.

Oh yeah. I watched a captain f up an approach and pound it on in SLC. A jumpseater who had a seat in the back stopped by the cockpit and asked the captain if he was doing IOE and kinda laughed as if it was my approach and landing. Friggin captain didn't even own up to it.

He was previous Eastern.....

Once upon a time:

Long time ago so memory is vague, I was jumpseating off line from somewhere to somewhere and whoever had the contols just flat pounded the mains through the pavement on touchdown. It was just one of those things; we have all done it.

There was some laughter and banter during the taxi in, of the "Take that, you runway" sort. When we got to the gate, I told the crew "I got this," and stood in the doorway in my uniform thanking the pax as they deplaned, taking the "credit" (and a couple of comments) for the landing.

I would occasionally brief jumpseaters who were in uniform something to that effect. "It's not my leg and it's not your leg; it's OUR leg. But if the landing sucks, it was HIS leg"

Tool of the day: the lead pilot who uses "reply all" to respond to the Chief Pilot's email to tell her that all the pilots on his shift have completed the mandatory safety survey.

Huh?
