So someone who doesn't volunteer can't be a people person and take care of their customers?

There is no correlation between volunteer work and being a good pilot, I'm sorry.

How about this answer to the recruiter. "I have 11 days off a month at home. I take care of my family and my home in those precious few days. I don't have the damn time to be Mother Teresa, okay."
That's a good way to get booted from the interview.

The fact that the employer asks makes it important to you.

If what the employer asks for isn't important to you, then you're probably the wrong person for the job.

Employers are looking for the most obedient wage slave. If you have expectations or demands, you need to start your own company. Customers are easier to find than employers. Pilots are still dime/dozen.

The system is gearing up to start cranking out pilots. Used 172 prices are soaring as flight schools snap up everything available. I suspect the pilot shortage window is going to be a lot smaller than most hope.

That's right, the propaganda machine is running again and dumb kids are signing up for 120k training programs. Old ratty 172s and Cherokee 140s are fetching over 40k. New schools are paying the help over 50k for what has historically been a minimum wage job. You want a sure thing, start a scumbag flight school!

I never said that I would say this in an interview, but you know everyone would like to say this.

Speaking of volunteer work, how do you document all of this volunteer work that you do?

There’s no requirement to document. Just don’t lie and be able to talk about it if asked. I do have a letter documenting 1500 hours of volunteer time I did restoring aircraft at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, but that’s more the exception than the rule.

Now that sounds like some volunteer work that I could be interested in. Nice.

I certainly don't know that.

The same way anything else is documented. Cite it by assignment and dates, same as any job.

I generally don't cite it at all.

Every application has a place for it. This does not mean that you need to fill that blank, not are you obligated to fill every blank.

I also don't cite all my work experience. I cite what's relevant for that employer and provide whatever information they require. Beyond that, I don't volunteer information that's not requested, and I don't feel obligated to check every box. I am prepared to answer whatever's asked.
