!...?
The exclamation point at the end of the thread title leads me to believe the thread starter is excited about this opportunity.
I dont understand how someone is excited about making 14000 or however low it is to fly a turbo-prop airplane with passengers on board. It is wrong and no pilot should even consider applying for the sake of the industry!!!
We pilots need to grow a pair and not allow this behavior to continue. It starts with us...
DONT APPLY

Like I mentioned in another thread, it doesn't matter which airline is hiring right now, weather Lakes, Compass, Eagle, every damn thread is the same thing on APC. People *****ing about the pay, upgrade time, the equipment they fly, whatever. People need to do their own research and make their own decisions.
And I'm getting pretty sick and tired of employed pilots complaining that UNemployed pilots are trying to get jobs. Some money is better than Zero. We know that Lakes is a crappy job, but it might be the only option for some people that are struggling. It is a PAID job that happens to suck. There are ex-UAL, Frontier, etc. guys flying at Lakes. I dare you to walk up to any of those guys and tell them "You shouldn't have applied at Lakes, because you are lowering the bar".
Apply, don't apply. It is your decision! Pay in this industry will never be what it once was, we are already too deep in this sh!t. There are thousands of pilots who will always do your job for less.

No, I'm not excited! Lakes might be a crappy place to work, but it is a job that is out there and available.

You said you are sick of seeing unjust pay scales accepted as the norm in this industry. But I see a you applied at Colgan. Do you believe Colgan is that much better than Lakes? Flying around a 70 some seat Turboprop for $19k/year? So, why did you apply? Probably because you need a job, or live close to one of their bases, keep flying because that is all you know how to do, or it might pay slightly more than unemployment. Whatever the reason might be. I'm sure the people applying to Lakes, or the furloughed United or Frontier guys flying there have their own reasons.
Again, everyone has to do and SHOULD do their own research and only they can make the decision.
And I am willing to bet, as soon as Colgan or whatever the next airline might be to start actively interviewing and hiring, you will be see the same BS posted on here. People telling people not to apply there, because of the low pay, because of the QOL, because of the equipment they fly, etc.

I would normally agree, but I can say that most pilots make more on unemployment then they do at this job, $14,000 is truly a disgrace to this industry!

Hear, hear. The scumballs are still in charge and they always will be until someone grows tired of the stuff they are throwing around and does something about it. I wish there was an easy answer.

Everyone apply
Actually, the solution here is for everyone to apply. Then, during the interview, explain that you would be happy to fly for Great Lakes at a different pay rate, whatever that rate might be. If everyone turns them down (which won't really happen) they will be forced to pay their new hires better.
What do you think about that strategy?
By the way, I know a few former Lakes guys. I think the flying would be a blast, but can't stomach the pay. 4 days in the Navajo pays more than a month at Lakes!
