man, you guys amaze me.....
Atlas pays $1600 per month while in training, x3 months is $4,800. Then you get your monthly guarantee of $80/hr x 62hrs which is $4,960 for 9 months that's $44, 640. First year is $49,600not including per diem which is probably another 7k.
However after speaking with several line pilots and a check airmen. I know you guys avg. 80hrs of pay per month. So 3 months of training $4,800 plus 9 months at $80hr x 80hrs is $57,600. So first year pay is $62,400 not including per diem and it would be $76,800(again not including per diem) if you didn't have 3 months at training pay.
Year 2 is easily over $100k and you guys still complain
I do not work there. I do not know the environment but stop whining because some other cargo company is paying more than yours. If you're truly that unhappy to be there, to the point of considering yourselves "inmates" why not just leave? Instead you guys come on APC to rant and cry.
No job is perfect, grow up a bit and go to work!

Your kidding, right? Telling all the guys that work at Atlas, that they don't know what they are talking about, and how good they should think they have it? These are the guys you would work with and you disrespect them right off the bat? All they are doing is trying to make things better, but yet you just want to berate them? Sure is a great way to win friends and influence people. Do you think that will work for you out on the line, throwing your brethren under the bus? They speak reality, you speak management cheapskate.
Doesn't sound like an Atlas crewmember candidate, sounds like management!

Why don't you go become a Management Pilot at UPS. Sounds like it would be a good fit for you. Let us know how you get on with all the line guys there, you can be their best bud, BFF!

That's the problem dude, I do enjoy aspects of the job. However, I want to WORK, and be fairly compensated for my time.
I'll try to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not a management troll... but I'm not sure what line pilots you've talked to. In 6 years at this company all on the 747, I've seen 80 hours on three occasions.
Talking about lines and hours, one of the things you have to get used to is a lack of bid/line protection. This month I could only hold 66 credit hours. However, in typical Atlas fashion I just got a schedule change lowering me to 43 block hours... and 8 days of R1 (UNPAID home reserve). So once again Atlas reaches into my pocket, pulls out the Benjamin's, and I get another min guarantee month of 62 hours. 18 hours shy of your mythical 80. BOHICA! Along with simply being able to vote on the next contract, pay protection is a fundamental change that we must see or I'm done.... ALL OUT!
Finally, the frustration you hear is often from people who see Atlas as a diamond in the rough and really want to see it succeed. But 34 awesome pilots just left last month with those same attrition numbers for the foreseeable future. Why, because there are options... and the apps are out. So please, put away the "no job is perfect" speak and open your eyes to the reality that most of these post present. I fly 747's around the world and the work is comparable to FedEx or UPS... not a charter, part 135 outfit or "worse option". Oh, and if you're management... remember that my union speaks for me and I'm ALL IN! Cheers!

80 hours is a lie. You will never block more than the monthly rig which gets you around 76 hours. On top of that you have zero pay protection so some months you'll end up with far less than that. Factor in vacation months paid at guarantee and you are looking at about $85k for your second year. That wayyyyy too low for flying a 747 into some of the most remote spots in the world with nothing but an iPad and on top of that being treated as a reserve pilot no matter what line you are awarded. This pilot group is fed up and rightfully so.

First year guarantee is 50 hours
And you only quoted 747 pay. What about the lower paid 767 pilots?
Hopefully you withdraw your Atlas application. We don't need more management stooges or morons. All those slots are already filled!

Has any type of 3rd party analysis been done as to , how much, Atlas can really afford to pay,,, adjusted for management somehow operating as efficiently as possible to avoid waste?
The attrition alone must be just draining the banks accounts. Management is cause for a large % of the attrition, to an appalling level.

Guys
Why do I have to be a management pilot or a troll because I don't agree with everything you say?
I wholeheartedly agree to any contract changes that would improve the pilots QOL.
If they are screwing around the schedules to bring you down to monthly garauntee thats tough and should be changed. You guys passed a strike vote, where was the strike? From what I read it seems like you all have been there for a while and have plenty of experience. Maybe you guys are ready to move up to something better legacies, fdx, ups...etc
For the lower time guys, it's a great stepping stone, with good international experience and a 74/76 type.
Again not a troll just don't believe in bashing and deterring someone from applying because you are no longer happy there.
