Sure, when I got hired here I was 27 and no one else was hiring. It was a no brainer coming from regional right seat. And as soon as a major calls I'm out. I'm not dissuading people from coming over. Just responding to a few posts who questioned the validity of our pay issues. What's been posted is accurate. Those of us Atlas pilots who post are trying to help, not pursuing an agenda.

Yes they have. They give you the drug test papers to keep with you until they e-mail you to go to one of the local drug test places in your area..

I know that Republic and Express jet have programs where they'll accept return pilots within 12 months of quitting at the same seniority/seat. There have been a few new guys at Atlas that have taken advantage of those programs and gone back.

Ill be curious to see when/if Kalitta signs this new contract and if we lose anyone to Kalitta.

Very well said. Much of what transpires in an individual's career depends upon where they are in that career. I am in the sunset time now (2 years 10+ months left in mine) and I'll be staying. If I were at the other end of my career my choice might well be different. As it is, I do very much enjoy the flying, the folks with which I fly and (believe it or not) even the constant schedule changes. It's much like flying the C-141 back in the day but without the tents and MREs. I absolutely do not begrudge anyone leaving here for better opportunities. It's a wise move most likely, at least with the contractual situation as it is now. For me, I'll ride this horse until it's time to hang up my spurs.

To further the discussion, I am at this time looking for other employment due mostly to low wages and job security for what is a very long career ahead of me (hopefully) still. However, I would be very torn to leave this job. Gateway travel (living where you WANT vs living in base or commuting) is fantastic. This job is the most fun I have ever had. Guys at Delta don't get to fly Leipzig-Incheon, or Tokyo-Sydney.

So yes, there are certainly positives.

After a recent union email that all but officially "discourages" VX, OT and outbasing, (that was my reading between the lines interpretation, anyway) their seems to be a growing consensus here lately against such.

There is a "more passionate" group here considering starting a social media page to out those that are doing such that is not sanctioned by the union leadership. I am not for posting anyone's name, even in a closed group. However, I am on board with the idea that SHOPping (Stop Helping Out Purchase) includes not flying VX, OT or outbasing.

So just a heads-up to those looking to work here. In the minds of many, the first year 50 hour guarantee, being on training pay, extended medical leave, etc., does not justify doing extra flying and will not get you any sympathy.

Couldn't the company just extend pilots for extra 4 days as per contract? Especially if nobody is picking up VX/OT voluntarily?
