I guess it only takes one crusty old examiner to throw a monkey wrench in your (hopeful) plans. I'm sure I'm not the only one in the same situation.
Cal,

Your situation is fine. Be ready to explain how you learned from your mistakes and have moved on, as evidenced by XXXXXX. The five years since on traffic tickets is great.

I'm not going to lie about my failures but I will be lying about what I learned. I didn't learn anything besides DE's make lots of money and FSDO examiners are on powertrips. If an airline interview board wants to make a big deal out of it whatever they can shove it up their arse. I know my skills are better than the ATP grade who knows jack.

I've said it before, I'm no optimist. However, it is plain to see that things are slowly taking a turn for the better in our industry. Is it great? Absolutely not. Will there ever be a "pilot shortage"? I don't think we'll ever see that. Let's face it though, barring some other catastrophic event, hiring will be fast and furious by the beginning of 2013 with a gradual build-up until then.

As others have said on this and other threads, airlines all around the world are hiring. That benefits us all.

We should do our best to ensure that the 1,500 hrs requirement and enhanced flight time/duty limitations are not diluted. IMO, those are the things that we have some influence over that will benefit us greatly.

I cant really see how a airline would really find it a non hiring point if you busted your private checkride 5yrs ago.
