I just finished up my type. I wanted to wait, but being on active duty orders at the moment, I didn't know when I would have the opportunity to take 2 weeks of leave again.

A SW recruiter came by to see our class, but she had no hiring news, other than the poolies being brought in. She did admit that the hiring department is the last to hear of such things.

I was hired without a type but I would be the first to tell you that I was luckier than most.

You can apply without the type but if you're interviewed I would try to have it by interview time.

If hired you have 6 mos to get the type.

Last I heard, we're interviewing internals only for pilot positions right now for classes that will start after the poolies are done. There is currently no word on hiring beyond that and they haven't opened up the application window to the public

Just curious. I did Higher Power (I'm guessing that's where u went) in 09 with 1 other guy in the class. How many people went through with you? SWA was so quiet they didn't even send over a HR rep.

Got my type in Jan. 03 and didn't interview until Feb. 07. Also used K&S aviation in PHX. Would recommend!

Yep, HPA. There were 11 of us. It is definitely picking up. I'm sure all the 737 school houses are very happy!

I understand dropping the type because of the AirTran merger, but honestly it's been part of the culture Herb developed and with so many qualified applicants on the street it really delineates those who are committed to SWA. Now, I have the type so I'm biased, but I think something else is happening. SWA is preparing a massive growth expansion. They wi blow up the Carribean and add Hawaii. They are going to position themselves as THE discount domestic airline, as they connect AirTran cities into the SWA network and philosophy of fast turns and market domination. Change is in motion with Major mergers and the Majors finally realizing the $$ is in International routes. SWA will need to hire and quickly. They will need hundreds and types will be taken care of in training.
