I'm sure it's been asked before, but what is the absolute latest on what does HAL pay and does not pay for in terms of accommodations?
I'm assuming no Hotel for any stage of the interview, is that correct? What about hotel during training? If not, how long does one have to prepare for to pay out of pocket? Are you getting your minimum $36x75hrs from day I of ground school? What about travel benefits on HAL, do they kick in from day one as well? how about CASS, how long till that is taken care of? When do you know what fleet you get assigned to? Thanks so much! |

I got myself a apartment room for $900/mo near by. Check craigslist, etc... Hotel would get prohibitively expensive... more than $3000/mo.. Plan on 5 days of Indoc. And then roughly 2 weeks of systems, with a day or two off every 4-5 days or so....I think in roughly 17 days I did 13 class days... So plan on a minimum 3 weeks of getting your own place...

You get what I believe was a daily rate for the days you are in groundschool. And then it is adjusted for min. guarantee I believe... Per diem starts day 1.... I think it came out to where I brought in slightly more than I do as a reservist now..... Not a whole lot more, but the extra did help out a little. When do you know what fleet you get assigned to? I think we found out by the end of day 1 or so... Thanks so much! CASS is done fairly quickly also. I think by the end of week 1, or 2, CASS is set up. It probably depends on how large your class is. Fewer people in class will probably mean an easier time getting passwords, badges etc. |

A few questions for those able and willing to answer:
1) I missed the last hiring window opening, but I had applied during the previous window. Is it possible for me to still update my app or do I have to wait for the window to re-open again? I think you can always update but I believe unless you hit the "APPLY" button during the open window it won't get seen by anybody. And I believe that every year they "system dump" so your application from 2 years ago is gone. Just the info you typed in remains. 2) ALPC states HA has contractual pay bumps for 2013 and 2014, anyone know what percentage those pay raises are? Not sure of the %.. But FO pay is a percentage of Captain pay depending on years of service... On APC it states that 2nd year widebody pay is $90. But in reality it is $93.xx for a second year guy in 2013... In 2014, 2nd year pay is a bit more.. 3) Is there a mandatory retirement list posted anywhere for HA like the ones posted on this site for many of the other majors?HAl publishes one which was posted on our company website... Don't think it can be found anywhere else... In general I'm planning on about 20-25+/- retirements average for the next 5-10+ years... Right now if the company grows to the numbers I've heard, I'm roughly estimating upgrade between years 6-10... Realistically I'm tentatively "planning" on upgrade around year 7... (Based on attrition, growth schedule, my place on the seniority list, and fudge factors)Subject to change:eek::rolleyes::o (I've been in the business just long enough to know not to ever count on upgrading) Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving! |

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving! My personal observation is that this is a relatively young airline compared to many... there are A LOT of 40ish year old captains with more than 10 years on the property and quite a few of the new hires from the past 3 years were int their 20's and early 30's.. That's just the reality from what I've seen. |
Thanks for all the great posts recently, It answers alot of questions.
Has anybody else received a call/email asking about phase 3, or the email that no one else wants to talk about. I interviewed in late Oct, and haven't heard anything. From what I heard during my interview, that it a good sign not to hear anything. Just curious. Thanks, SEE YA!! |
How long is ground school or the portion that one pays for their own accommodations?

Kingairfun had this to say to answer your question...
