again, nothing.. their assumption is this is a HNL based airline and you'll move here from day 1. They pretty much treat you as if you're living here from the get go, asking you to "Swing by the office and get your paper work" before your actual class start date....

This isn't to say everyone does move, but that's the way they see it. I got myself a apartment room for $900/mo near by. Check craigslist, etc... Hotel would get prohibitively expensive... more than $3000/mo..


yep, and ironically you're also getting per diem... for a portion of ground school... don't ask me to explain that but I know we all did, even those who reside on the island. It was about $2/hr in per diem plus the 75x36 pay.

day one or two at the lastest.... goes by social security number and lowest is most senior..... in our class, the oldest people were actually junior to the youngest.... different from every other airline/carrier I've worked at but I know other airlines also do this practice.

Any furloughed AA, Delta or UA guys at HAL that you know of?

in my class alone we had a furloughed UAL guy, and an America West (US Air) guy that I know of for sure.

Travel benefits start day 1, but there is a lag time to get into the system to list yourself... Also have to get your company ID's which takes a few days depending on how quickly you get your AOA badge and have all your paperwork completed. (there is a lot of running back and forth to HR to tie up loose ends etc)... If you need to get somewhere, Training can accomodate you with a phone call or two to travel department. But going off island alot, or heading to the mainland every time you get 2 days off may get noticed if you fall behind at all? I live on an outer island and pretty much stayed put in HNL except for a couple of times to take care of home stuff.

CASS is done fairly quickly also. I think by the end of week 1, or 2, CASS is set up. It probably depends on how large your class is. Fewer people in class will probably mean an easier time getting passwords, badges etc.

the list which is on our MEC site is dated from 1/2011 which is when we had approximately 450 of the current 605 pilots... on that list, there is about 10-12 retirements a year for the next 3-4 years and then a pick up to 15-20 thru the later part of the decade.. I asked the woman who runs our ALPA office if they can update the list to better show the picture of the current seniority list but she said she was told the company refused to continue to provide this data due to privacy reasons... so it's hard to tell exactly how it looks now.

My personal observation is that this is a relatively young airline compared to many... there are A LOT of 40ish year old captains with more than 10 years on the property and quite a few of the new hires from the past 3 years were int their 20's and early 30's..

That's just the reality from what I've seen.

Has anybody else received a call/email asking about phase 3, or the email that no one else wants to talk about. :confused: I interviewed in late Oct, and haven't heard anything. From what I heard during my interview, that it a good sign not to hear anything. Just curious.

How long is ground school or the portion that one pays for their own accommodations?

HAL does not pay for hotel until you go to sim. Plan on 5 days of Indoc. And then roughly 2 weeks of systems, with a day or two off every 4-5 days or so....I think in roughly 17 days I did 13 class days... So plan on a minimum 3 weeks of getting your own place...
