I didn't think planes went off ones certificate. I'm sure you know Ryan has flown DC9&10, B727/737/757/767, A320/330.

If you don't fly said planes, they usually do come off the certificate. It's about resource management. If they don't intend to keep them, then the FAA can't allocate the resources to manage them, how they do this is by taking them off the certificate. If they want to put something back on a certificate, or put something on there that is new, once again the FAA has to come up with the resources to manage it, manpower.

Don't forget the MD-80 and you can add 777's as well. Though we never acquired a 777, it was on the certificate and pilots were trained. When deals fell through for a 777, that's when they switched to 330's.

As James said, if you aren't flying a certain type, resources are not usually spent, both within the company and the FAA, to maintain the type. If they aren't maintained, they come out of the Ops Specs. It's all irrelevant anyway, PEX didn't acquire the Ryan certificate. Rumor has it the FAA closed the Ryan certificate in the last few weeks. Rather unfortunate, not many certificates had as many authorizations and types flown throughout the years.

There is a thread on the JC "jobs available-member's only" section for Vision FOs, specifically to staff this People's Express op. Apparently Vision staffed up by a couple classes recently to fly these routes, or at least that's what folks in that thread are saying.
