Remember that Skywest has PNW bases, is 4-5 times the size of Horizon and is a much better run Regional.

If I didn't live in Alaska and about 45 minutes out of ANC, I would go for Skywest, but that commute is much more challenging and we have no intention to move out of Alaska.

Have commuted from ANC to SEA, PDX and LAX….requires a different strategy for sure. Horizon has opened and closed flying and bases in Alaska before. They could not staff it. Q400 worked fine but Horizon just has no experience at operating outside of their norm. They still try to run things as though they are an airline. Gets in the way of staffing and costs. I hope for their sake they pare down to just pilots, fa’s, mechanics and dispatchers. Alaska Airlines is reluctant to force that change for historical reasons but it really needs to happen for them to get their game going.

Does anyone know someone who took the stipend and then did not come to work. Was there a process to give the money back.

I’ve heard it’s very straightforward, they’ll send you an email with who the send the $ back to, and you can request a payment plan which will be sorted out through a legal team. If you don’t reply you will receive a notice to pay or be sent to collections.

Curious as to why you’re bailing out?

Is this program still open and accepting new applicants? Is there a link to this program?

According to newsletter sent out few days ago, Ascend Pilot Academy cadets are joining the waitlist and they have a class placement guarantee within six months of reaching ATP minimums. There are three of them on the list of 75 and as more join, I fear that it will take longer for regular PDP pilots to get a class date since they don't have six months guarantee like Ascend Academy pilots do
