What's happening at Horizon and Jets?

Whole lot of people who got out of the industry 5-6 years ago because they couldn't make it on $22K a year decided that with a big starting bonus to help get them through training and the time it will take them to upgrade to captain they are willing to jump back in the game. For that matter, some will only need to pick up 4-5 hundred FO hours before they can jump to street captain either at Horizon or someplace else.
About November 2017 was the sweet spot where everyone was desperate. Now everyone's hiring, because they know the attrition is coming, but they can afford to be selective and keep swimmers inthe pool.

Never was a true pilot shortage at QX except for the one it created last year. All of the hiring this year was to catch up to the levels it should have been last year. There isn't any true growth in terms of net fleet expansion. The company keeps stating "The E175 fleet is expanding/growing...." yes, but the Q is shrinking. Technically, I think we will be 1 or 2 less airplanes at the end of 2018. Attrition has been around 10-20 pilots per month, but closer to the low end. Still a fairly senior company with senior FOs holding out on upgrade. Your mileage may vary.
