What's happening at Horizon and Jets?

Hey when are we going to be 'properly staffed'? Seems like we're going to meet the hiring goal a month from now and might hit 900 on the seniority list soon with less than 60 airplanes. Also they are offering extra vacation slots and time off without pay. Still they seem to be scheduling classes into December. Are we just going to hire until we reach 1200 then stop hiring until we reach 600?

SEA Q400 FO lines for September
Holy crap! Down to 23 lines for the month. August was 27, July was 31. How many Qs do we still have flying, and does anyone have any idea what the drawdown will be to by the end of the year? I know the jets are coming in, and am also curious about how many we have now.

Don't know about the number of Q400's currently in service, but we have 69 regular lines for Q400 captains in Portland. This doesn't seem to be much below the norm. Perhaps the draw down is mostly for Seattle?

It sure looks that way. Maybe with SEA being the only base for the jet (satellite base exception), they are going to move the Qs completely out of SEA and then have a satellite Q SEA base from PDX??

Possible.
From 2000 to about 2008, Portland was the ONLY Q400 base. Seattle was a base for the 37-seat Dash 8 100/200. As the smaller Dashes were phased out, Horizon opened a Q400 base in Seattle. Boise, Medford, and Spokane were added in August 2012. Anchorage opened later and closed this year.
As far as "lines per aircraft"... We've historically had about 10-12 line pilots per aircraft. Note I said "line" pilots. There are some additional people on the seniority list that don't fly much (i.e., they're in management, training, or on some kind of leave). When our entire fleet consisted of 54 Q400's, we had about 275 crews (captain + FO), plus a few extra line check airmen (all captains). So, about 550 active line pilots out of approximately 630 on the seniority list.
Last I checked, we had over 800 pilots on our seniority list. The bottom 50-60 pilots are still in training. Compared to historical staffing levels, we seem somewhat fat on pilots. I've heard that the jet may require more crews per aircraft due to the longer legs.

Maybe, but the Q is not your typical turboprop. It goes pretty quick and has a lot more threats than the E175 does. At least that’s how I feel after flying both planes. The jet can be a little slick when heavy with a tailwind but other than that it’s easier to fly than the Q for sure. That’s due to pretty much everything being auto on the jet.
