Have you ever made a stand up PA because the AO is waffling and the customers are freaking out because jetcrew keeps updating them on departure times? Then, when the flight cancels the customers make underhanded comments to you and even get up into your face because now you’re the reason they’re experiencing JetBlue’s operational failure?

Have you ever sent an ACARS dispatch because you can’t get through to crew services to tell MOT that you’re going to time out because the taxi line is 1 hour, with absolutely zero response??????

Unlucky? Hardly. I’ve been abused beyond a reasonable doubt by an operation that lacks clarity and certainty integrity. I’ve been disrespected as an employee and more importantly as a professional pilot.

I believe you, no need for proof. My experience has just been different. In the past 2 months, I was about to time out 3 times. All 3 times, I had to call CS because they had no idea what was happening. When I made them aware, the first two times, they just took me off the trip. Once I got a hotel in place, once I was given. DH back to base. Never asked me to extend. The third one, I volunteered to extend, as it was go home leg.

And it's a negative to the ACARS timeout message as well. Like I said, not doubting you, my experience has just been different is all. Sorry you've had it happen to you. I would be grumpy about it as well.

Couldn't edit, but wanted to add: the part I find frustrating is not so much that they would ask us to extend, but that they never seem to be aware (at least in my case) that I was close to timing out in either instance above. One of them, the person answering the phone sounded bored when I said I was close to timing out, as if he did not believe me. But once he looked, his voice took on a panicked note, and said he would call me right back. I told him to take his time, as we were delaying boarding until they found a replacement for me. (Already over two hours late)

And if you stop doing everyone else’s job the place falls apart.

I’m glad your realize this and clearly stated the underlying problem that the people who are responsible for the details of the operation are not aware nor making sound decisions. This is where the frustration boils over as the operator. The crew services or mot desk aren’t physically present on the jet, terminal or hotel to experience the chaos.

Then, we get the President and COO, doing her best impersonation of Steve Jobs at an event that probably cost close to our total profit sharing, telling us we have to preserve culture. WTF? The hypocrisy is compounded by hubris. It wasn’t like that 8 years ago. It was better in the labor dispute. Quality of Life. It’s gone. The customers will go too if we keep this bull$hit up.

The guys doing the VDAs/RSAs primarily aren't fighting the seniority/reserve abuse battles. They just aren't. So they don't care if the quality of life is bad for many because of bad staffing.

Furthermore, and ponder this for a few minutes, the guys making big money off VDAs/RSAs know they are doing so BECAUSE the staffing is bad. They know the staffing is bad and are cashing in big-time for themselves. They don't WANT the staffing fixed.
Ha! I agree. I need to calm down. Take a look at the trade board. Senior guys dropping their better schedules to tactically prepare for a northeast weather event and JetBlue meltdown. Why work for straight pay?

It's just reality. The guys picking up all the VDAs/RSAs don't WANT the staffing fixed, so they sure won't ever stop picking it up.

Hopefully during the next Labor Dispute they will be smart enough to respect the cause...

I respectfully disagree that the majority of pilots don't WANT it fixed. I know I want it fixed, and have never heard anyone ever say they liked the current staffing. Hell, I might even pick up a VDA if it benefits me. But anyone who picks up a RSA or VDA during a labor dispute needs to have their heads examined. And their names put on a list.

Like the website the Spirit pilot group created? Yeah let’s not go there please.

I’ve been in Phase II for 6 months now. Has anyone heard of an applicant being in Phase II for this long of a period?
