Evidently Spirit is a magical place where no one ever has to show up to work. No one works on Christmas or Thanksgiving or weekends. All it costs is lower pay rates and a "different" clientele.

you pay for it on reserve but once you’re a line holder here it is magical. 4th was green for me this month and all weekends off. I’m still pretty jr too

yes, he is talking about dropping to 50 hrs or 60 or 40 or whatever. I do it all the time and it's great to have this kind of flexibility! At NK you can work as little or as much as you want if you are a line holder. To many here that's gold. Hope we'll carry this thru into the JCBA.

But that's not DTZ. That's green grid rules, or staffing.

DTZ is a separate rule, allowing people to DROP without a credit restriction. That doesn't magically make the grid green, but could potentially do the opposite. Obviously NK was staffed in your base/seat this month, which is great, but is not the result of allowing drops below guarantee.

I hear ya. I'm just not a "work 40 hours a month" kind of guy. Yes, sometimes that's all I work, if I have vacation or burn some PTO, but otherwise that's never been me. So it's just not my fight. You part timers can fight your fight, that's fine. I simply see it as, most likely, something that benefits a fraction of the group. We don't have it here, so somehow 4,950 pilots get by just fine, and I doubt a large proportion of them will suddenly start working/crediting 40 hours a month.

I have, a few times, been denied a trade because my credit would go below 70. So of course I do support some "Drop to XX". But I have no real use for ZERO, so again that's just not my fight, especially if we have to give up something, or give up other GAINS that will be enjoyed by most/all pilots.

Best post I’ve seen here ever!!!!!!

See all this time I never knew their little secret, I always thought people went there cause the flight hours they preferred were low, upgrade times were fast, and they had domeciles in low cost of living areas. Welp I got that wrong.

I bet many JB pilots would love to have this. Of course everyone's personal circumstances are different, but If you are a commuter, have kids, want to take an extra summer vacation, move to Europe or Costa Rica, getting close to retirement and just want to work less, the list goes on and on, you can. You probably don't fall into any of these categories right now but might in the future. TBH, I've never dropped to zero here at NK and don't know many that do. But I would definitely not stay here if not for this kind of flexibility.

I’m with you on this. I would love Spirit’s reserve grid, but I’m just not willing to put a whole lot into “drop to zero”. 40-50? Sure. Side note, looks like United’s AIP has PS matching Deltas. These airlines have done all the legwork for our NC. All these guys need to do is pattern bargain. None of our pilots should accept anything less.

I’m a drop to zero guy, lol and I understand I may be the minority but We should absolutely be able to meet in the middle. What I absolutely refuse to do is forego PS or anything else these legacies have to subsidize the cost of the merger.
