Can you upgrade in 2 years even on the 190?

Is this a present or future question? You can but you likely won’t. A bit of situational awareness is required.

There are brand new hires who got awarded Captain on the last bid….and will likely have their class in 2024

The company has stated that their intention is for the 190 will be gone by 2025. Therefore the displacement bid for closing the BOS 190 base (the only 190 base left) will likely be summer 2024 or sooner with an effective date of 2025. So this means that those new hires will be Captains for a very short time if at all before they are displaced back to being FO’s on some other equipment [(whisper and cup hand) some of them don’t yet know this] in addition anyone hired from this day forward would never be able to hold Captain at that amount of time on property.

But of course company’s plans can and have been changed. The company has already changed their minds on the retiring the 190 once already only to revert back to what the plan is currently.

Default RSV QOL

Contemplating the difference in QOL between JB & NK.

I've been told that on RSV, daily RAPs are assigned the day before, which can change on a day-to-day basis.

Is there still way of stating a RAP preference to consider when bidding?
Is there any language in the contract to get ahead of things and preference open time trips for assignment 24hrs prior while on RSV?
Can anyone pick up out-of-base open time trips on their days off?
What are the RAPs in JFK?
Do you still have positive-space commuting to & from RSV pairings?

Thanks...

RAP assignments happen the day prior to your SCR shift at 0800. RAP times are custom built by CS and can be anything they need. You can preference a “silo” that you’d like to be in. Such as Silo A 0000-0700, Silo B which is 0700-1200, Silo C 1200-1700, Silo D 1700+. These silos are just the RAP start time. Each RAP is typically 10hrs.

For LCR you can request trips that are sitting in OT for the next day. Trip preference window closes at 0300 day prior and awards posted at 0800. Someone will state that technically you can do this for SCR too, but it is super rare to get a next day trip awarded as a SCR since they have to go through all LCRs first.

There is language in the contract for global opentime where you’d be able to pick up a trip in another base, but it is rarely ever available. As a RSV you can only get paid extra by picking up extra reserve shifts (available in many bases, called RSA) or pick up a premium trip (150%) in your base, or get called for a VDA trip (200%).

PS commuting still exists, we have no clue how long it will last though.

That clarifies a lot. Thanks.

Do they usually honor report times in your preferred silos or is it luck of the draw on that day?
Does LCR go very senior?
What is the difference between a premium trip & VDA?

Day 1 SCR they can’t give you a RAP or a trip before 1000 base time. Day 1 LCR the earliest conversion to SCR or trip will be 1400 base local time.

They usually do a decent job of honoring your Silo prefs. LCR goes slightly more senior, but not crazy.

Premium trip is something you can pick up directly in the opentime pot (trip is flagged with an X and you know it is premium and will pay 150% above reserve guarantee). VDA is something where CS calls pilots in seniority order and offers them the trip. It pays 200%, but you have no control over what the trip is. If you answer the phone then it’s yours and you have to accept the assignment.

Just checking to see if this is still up to date information on upgrades a year and a half later.

I've heard attrition is picking up a bit at JetBlue so that is why I'm asking. Currently at Spirit waiting on news of the merger.

I will answer the second part of your question. Attrition did pick up a bit sept-Nov but only 19 left in December. I think 2024 will be less than 2023, as we have already seen delta announce reduced hiring.

All(well 95%) of JB attrition is FO’s, and the other 5% retirements here and there. Of those FO’s they are almost exclusively sub 2 years.

we just almost never have captains leave here.

thanks to CLR_STATUS on bluepilots who tracks all this. Here is the 2023 data.

497 hired
354 left
C91 went from 25 down to 23

5 retired early

% of SL loss
2020 - 1.7%
2021 - 3.0%
2022 - 6.9%
2023 - 7.1%

Loss to hire ratio
2020 - 79.5%
2021 - 34.2%
2022 - 41%
2023 - 71.1%

This is true, but be VERY careful on day 1.

I had SCR for a 5 day stretch, I knew I couldn't get anything earlier than 1000. So I preferenced Silo D and then nothing. I ended up getting 0130 on my first day. If you preference ANYTHING on day 1 you open yourself up to something earlier than 1000 on SCR.
