that actually sucks that you can’t do that, especially for commuters. Say you’re JFK based and live in CLT. It would be nice to have the option to pick up say a ATL trip ( if the deal goes through) or something from another base that’s a similar distance. Also for junior people who live in base but can’t hold a line in that base it allows you to drop your trips from your more junior base and pick up trips where you live. It’s pretty nice

Except that we had some FLL Captains who made the same argument he did. They *****ed about bypassing seniority and such…. Never mind the fact their line is built based on seniority, initial open time is based on seniority…. Two bites at the seniority apple out of three…yeah, the system bypasses seniority….

I agree with you. I can’t believe JetBlue doesn’t have this, and that some wouldn’t want it. Especially if you commute.

Pretty sure it had to do with fears that Prem/VDA opportunities would be reduced in the more senior bases where many people tend to live as well.

^^^ This

Be based in a junior base but live in a senior one
Drop to Zero
VDA/PREM in the senior base, or even just pick up straight time and avoid commuting
Profits

With Spirits current premium set up you can only list for “xlist” in your domicile. Takes care of that issue. And what’s wrong with avoiding commuting if you’re able?? Benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Ahh that’s good to hear you can only pick up premium in your domicile.

Avoiding commuting is good, but it ensures that Reserve grids will remain black/red in junior bases and super green in senior bases.

Honestly, it all tends to balance out. Someone might see the trip you swapped out of and swap into it, and so on and so forth....

Seems the opentime side of the grid equation needs work as well. Not just the res grid side. To many handcuffs. No res pickups, no out of domicile, no split. These are all provisions with more upside than down if structured properly. The first two will take out a ton of undesirable flying while at the same time improving QOL for res and commuters. Time fences will make it a non issue for domicile pilots.

Yeah, you could get the best res grid language in the industry and still have issues manipulating a schedule if you don’t address opentime.

Do you have anything—anything?!—else? Hours of service, pay/overrides, strict rescheduling rules, literally anything that rivals the jetblue contract? All these years I’ve heard about the amazing contract but it seems like it’s just drop to zero and four days off. Womp womp.

Quoting myself for a follow-up.

It would seem drop to zero and four days off are the only things worth touting from the Spirit contract. JeTbLuE gEtS pAiD mOrE.... BuT oUr QoL iTeMs!!! I truly do want to be educated on the good things in your contract that rival ours/legacies....
