Boston JetBlue reserve
#41
I am in BOS on reserve until the end of the month. The company will pay either $40 towards airport parking at my domicile OR buy a T-pass in BOS.
My local airport only charges $16 per month so I choose the T pass. It's been invaluable to explore Boston during my time off.
The crashpad I stay at is 2 minutes from the Maverick T stop and is $220/mon. I can leave my apartment and be at the gate in 20 minutes. It is a 4 bedroom apartment - each room has a bunkbed in it. Most of the time I'm alone.
Bathroom and kitchen are perpetually filthy. Sometimes I'll break down and clean them, but next time you go back they're disgusting again. Some guys need their moms to follow them around and clean up after them I guess.
Neighborhood is very safe during daylight hours. There is a grocery store, And a Walgreens a few blocks away. Tons of good, cheap restaurants ("Dough" pizzeria - best sandwiches in town). Target is a 15 minute ride on the T.
There is a great YMCA in east Boston, or a Planet Fitness 2 stops away on the T.

I don't mean to rain down on the parade.. I have 6000tt 4500 jet, ATP, 7yr RJ FO, etc.. I have been trying for 5+ yrs and haven't got called. I'm hoping my time is coming though.. I gotta be close and it looks like the upgrade will coming soon. Seems without PIC time you can't go anywhere..
Currently In Phase II.
It is possible.
You have to chase it, you can't wait for it to come to you.

I loved the Vermonter! I have to commute in a day early due to forecast weather here at home, so I intend to visit Dough for lunch tomorrow! Looking forward to it already! Had no idea they delivered to the airport! Good to know.

I was Hired in April with 3800TT, ZERO TPIC, Retired Military (Enlisted)
Got my Bachelors on Active Duty, Ratings after I retired. 5 yrs at a Regional (CRJ, 190). Got my own ATP so I could apply.
The key to getting noticed is to take every opportunity to go to the job fairs and meet them in person. They want people who WANT to be here. Easier said than done, I know, but if something is important, you do what ever it takes. If your committed to coming here, or anywhere else for that matter, it will show. I attended the Vets in Blue, and Women in Aviation Conference.
That would be THE single biggest advice, that I would pass...,
go to the job fairs that JetBlue attends. It means a lot in their eyes to see people taking the time, effort and expense to meet in person.
Where ever you decide to go, best of luck!

Look elsewhere.
Jetblue's medical/presciption drug plan is beyond pathetic and management simply doesn't care. You will be laying yourself wide open for major, major out-of-pocket expenses.
Plan on never being home for christmas or thanksgiving for many, many, many years. Even if you become relatively senior in your seat/base our staffing is such that you get your monthly schedule and it's "tough crap. You have ONE DAY off between December 24th and December 31st."
If you would like to plan on getting a summer vacation awarded to you so you can plan on taking a vacation with your kids, look elsewhere. Our vacation distribution policy is such that even very senior pilots can't get a summer vacation slot awarded. Senior management told the pilots regarding this matter: "Everyone has to make sacrifices to work here."
If QOL really matters, look elsewhere.

I agree with beech, I currently have less than 4000 total and I'm in phase two. I attended job fairs met with recruiters and showed them that I really wanted to work there. Everyone applies online, it's that little extra initiative that makes you stand out.
