Years… MCO for someone not on property will be a VERY long time. All bases are 1-5 day trips.

i just got a conditional job offer to fly for JetBlue with their gateway program, it is an expensive program--110k, with the major upside being that I can go from a CFI with 1500TT straight to JetBlue without an interview. I see on JetBlue's recent job posting for first officers, the only requirements are 1500 hours TT, with a minimum of 500 hours in fixed-wing airplanes, and an ATP. Wouldn't it be smarter to go to a cheaper part 61 school--55k, and apply to JetBlue when I get 1500TT?

Think of it in terms of seniority…the faster you can get seniority 55k will be meaningless!
I personally know of FOs at JBU making north of 35k during the summer months flying premium trips!

I mean… gateway gets you guaranteed hired at 1500TT. Doing it yourself means you come to us with bare minimum “experience;” you wouldn’t even be close to competitive. Despite published minimums, I don’t think you have a realistic shot with an ink-still-wet ATP. I didn’t get a call til I hit 4000TT and over 3000 airline hours. If you come off the street like that you’re competing with experienced airline and corporate guys, many of whom have been captains.
