Right. Most get numbers, but a few haven't. Last week 10 instructors interviewed and all were successful. They will get numbers in the first class after the hiring committee accepts them.

That's great news about the 10 who got numbers. There is a noticeable difference between instructors who do fly the line at JB and those who haven't. I hope in the future we can get all instructors seniority numbers when they are hired.

Some instructors started as regular pilots and went into the training department. It's a mix, really. The pay is based on FO Airbus rates, so once they can hold captain they have a decision to make, as the pay doesn't go up to captain rates.
They also start at 2nd year pay.

Kindof. It's less than second year Airbus FO, but more than first year pay. When they get numbers they stay on salary until their seniority can hold second year pay, then they step up to that from then on.

Best way to become an instructor is to get hired first as a line pilot and then apply to be an instructor.

Was not aware of that. Had an instructor tell me that too. Maybe he just didn't feel like explaining the details.

It may have been second year pay at some point, but it didn't move up to the newer rates. I'm not sure. Second year now is in the mid 80s. The new hire instructors are at $70k, I believe.
