We aren't just talking about safety. We are talking about professionalism. Pilots need to be worried about doing what their profession calls for. Check the JetBlue First Officer job application site that lists duties and responsibilities. Cleaning isn't on there. Professional airline pilot duties include checking the release, checking maintenance, external inspections, evaluating weather, setting up the box, briefing, pushing buttons, talking on the radio, and flying. When you are swimming upstream with blue gloves on, customers then are confused why a janitor just landed in JFK.

Furthermore, one of the big issues that blows my effing mind, is when we are on a quick turn with a crew swap, and the a hole inbound crew leaves their stuff in the cockpit in my way while they dumpster dive. I not only have to fight the real (paid) cleaners who hover in the lav and galley to get into my work space and begin work, I have to fight fellow pilots who are more worried about cleaning than getting their crap out of my way and off the plane just to get in and start work. And when I'm waiting in a hot jet bridge (it happened twice in a place with a hot jetbridge to me on my last trip) waiting on pilots to stop screwing around outside their lane dumpster diving, I get aggravated and angry, which is not conducive to a good work environment. There's your safety segue.

Every. Other. Pilot. Group. Does. Not. Clean. Aircraft. And they turn more quickly and efficiently. Partly because cleaners clean. And those non cleaning pilots get paid more than you. It's like we just started flying passenger flights yesterday. We have moved backwards while the suits try to figure out how to turn an aircraft better from their desk. Have fun playing along and trying to make the turn faster. At least move your crap out of my way so I can work. You should keep going above and beyond and start cleaning the terminals also once you finally get off the plane. That is as much your job as cleaning an airplane while you are only getting paid to fly an airplane.

Ask your union whether you should be cleaning while you are working. Do what they say.

.
How about you wait at the top in a nice climate controlled environment for the pilots to exit? They leave, then you start your work. That way you can arrive to the cockpit cool.

I'm at the point where I just wait at top by the gate until both pilots come off. Running late? Too bad... don't schedule 40 minute turns for an A320.

Lot's of hiring planned next year and interview invites are going out and the hiring window is scheduled to open in January! Let's educate prospective applicants on the truth about this place! I wish we could get a web site going like AtlasFacts.org

I think I understood your 5th grade double negative question. I don't dumpster dive, I never said I do.

I also don't stand around in hot jetways (twice in a trip!).
