Union leadership changes happened between those two times.

we didn’t “deny” the company VILs. We simply took an off ramp that was pre negotiated. I’m sure the union would be happy to negotiate continued use or God forbid actually have the company show up to section 6 negotiations ready to make progress.
This. The MEC isn't being selfish. These are the guys we want to lead ALPA, and its all part of their strategic plan. Trust the process.

Just because one guy sits at home doesn’t mean the other wants to work 85. Without VIL there is a chance that those who get LCR may not be called or escalated as much. Theoretically the grids should be closer to green allowing drops and swap more often and maybe, possibly on a weekend dare I say. Thats a win for a lot more then the few who bid and awarded these damn VIL’s
You sir, have a mathematical understanding of the impacts of VIL on the MASTER SENIORITY LIST.
Why can’t pilots grasp this?

Seniority was permitted to be abrogated, plain and simple.

I’m unclear whether to agree with you or take offense lol. I stand against VIL for reasons stated and would only agree to them in dire circumstances. Saving Management from their epic planning failures is not one I would consider dire.

I live in base, and have never utilized a VIL. With that said, I am pro VIL. It it helps the company and guys get time off, thats great. I am also pro MEC stopping the VILs. The ones pi$$ed off are the ones who are getting paid to stay at home, and think they have a right to continue to do so. Sorry guys. Time to get back to work.

This definitely would’ve been a more palatable LOA.

Well there it is. I guess I do not have to take offense to your previous comments. You do seem to acknowledge that VIL is bad for the pilot group. You acknowledge that the company took advantage of VIL as well as cancellation of a bid knowing that they would cancel said bid during vacation bidding. You acknowledge that the company decided not to honor awards of the yearly bid. You say they have abrogated seniority, I say they’ve subjugated us. I agree. They do not deserve to offer VIL. Those p!ssed off be damned. Get back to work! VIL is evil and f%#ks our bidding, it helps no one. It doesn’t “save jobs”. It does nothing except pull money from the left pocket and put it in the right. I praise the MEC for disallowing VIL. I hope you all do too.

The union also allowed the VIL in the first place. At the very least, it’s understandable why someone might be confused about how to feel.
