Thanks for serving on a committee.
This argument between you and std deviation would be a lot more interesting if we could actually see you guys at your computers. I can imagine both of you in robes smoking a pipe. I will donate a monicle to the winner.

STD Dev probably has a little bell he rings when he want a refreshment. "Jiles bring me another Brandy, I am busy with my Novel".

here's a question for people who know contracts from other majors.

i'm currently an a320 fo. if i upgrade to the e190, then jetblue gets rid of the e190s, what is likely to happen to me? what is generally the language in contracts for a scenario like that?

Your seniority stays the same and what you can hold?

Generally speaking when a company gets rid of a base or fleet they do it slowly over the course of a year or more. They run displacement bids, basically kicking out a portion of the base/seat each time. The re-training takes a while so they can't just do it all at once. When you are displaced you generally can go any other base/seat in the company that your seniority can hold and any seat/equip lock is eliminated.

Exactly.

If/when they do it, it will most likely be under a CBA and I doubt it would happen fast. The only real way to pull it off with out much of a problem is.

1 go with the E2.....differences training
Easy

2 just go all bus, slowly get rid of the 190 and transition everyone over.
Kind of easy

3 get a new fleet type. Now you need all new training you will have 3 fleets for a little while and move everyone around.
More complex

ok, thanks for the info. i am very junior and i was putting this scenario out there as if i would be able to upgrade on the e190, but not on the airbus.

and if they got rid of the e190, i'd still be junior to all the airbus captains. so the only place to go in that scenario (assuming they just got rid of the e190 and had all airbuses) would be back to the right seat of the airbus?

there'd be no special dispensation for having been a captain, it just goes right back to what my seniority can now hold? i was just curious how something like that shakes out.

I have had experience with this at another carrier, but JetBlue has not displaced anyone as of yet. The eventual CBA will no doubt tell the tale about how it shakes out. As mentioned previously, typically in the industry the guys getting displaced will be able to go where their seniority can hold. Depending on how fast this happens this can create secondary displacements. In this secondary displacement the surplus of captains can create forced downgrades, and that in turn can create a surplus of fos which can lead to furloughs. Its really no bueno all around. We can only hope to have enough replacement aircraft to prevent secondary displacements. I think we can all agree that we don't need any kind of fleet shrinkage in this market, and if that were to happen you'll can forget about upgrading any time soon.

Being jetblue, your hourly pay remains the same, but they increase your medical premiums by the difference between 320 FO and 190 CA pay.

Good post and my money is on the cheap option, so lets get ready for 190-2.0.
Anyone wanting real movement would be wise to get to a legacy where the retirements are high. B6 relies on slow growth for progression.
