I'm just ready for something different. International 747 is so appealing to me. I've read a lot about the strike. Most seem to think it won't happen this year if it happens at all. Same for the new contract. What makes you think it is imminent?

I work for another Teamster cargo carrier, but I have many friends there.

I am not saying it is imminent. It is not guaranteed, but it is more likely than not. But of all the carriers, Kalitta is by far the closest to a strike.

You have to be prepared. The proffer by the union has already been made. If it is going to be done this YEAR it will be done in fall. I think almost all of the Kalitta pilots realize that the only way Connie is going to agree to another contract is with the proverbial gun to his head! Connie is a real SOB. He would screw over his pilots just for spite.

Why not go to another carrier.....with a little more stability in the foreseeable future.

I do understand the desire for International Boeing ops. I would not want to go back to a regional.

For me the last five months go 72, 70, 90, 79, 87 credit hours. (no days off flying). YMMV.

There is a risk coming here, but there are risk to not. I would not consider any regional a 'solid'. Ask anyone from Comair.

I've been told that Kalitta wants to see from its pilot applicants 5000 hours, wide body, and international experience (Canada and Mexico don't count). Most guys coming in fit only one of the three criteria, a necessary comprimise with the state of the industry and our inferior contract. This may not always be the case. If that new contract materializes, it may be only those with three of the three boxes checked that get the call.

Realize that if you come here, you can always leave if it isn't to your liking. For better or for worse, seniority here has little meaning, so your QOL day one off IOE is about what you can expect throughout the rest of your stay. You can still keep your Delta app updated, and if they call that's awesome.

Kalitta has it's own unique brand of idiosyncrasies and stupid BS that its crews have to put up with, but I would never recommend to a regional pilot to forgo a chance to fly the 747 here if that's the job they want to do.

Anyone on the July 18th new hired class? I was informed I will get studying material about a month prior, but so far I have not received anything. Most of my friends who went through training told me that they receive their stuff about a month prior the class.

Does anyone still show up to class these days?

We have had an occasional no show. Most people show up for class. Contact training if you have not received your material 734-484-0088. This is the main number. Ask for training.

Max jet, Thanks for quick reply. I did call the training department, the guy who answer the phone told me that the instructor will send out study material next week. It seems to little bit late compare to my other friends who went through the program.

I meet an AA furlough pilot in Tokyo a few years ago. He was working for Kalitta while waiting his recall. He was using his time off in to travel in MNL. How did he manage to do this without ZED fare or "gateway" travel (or alternate travel as ATLAS has) ? Only through jumpseat?

I am now in a similar situation, where having blocks of days off and the ability to travel overseas would be very beneficial. I have been looking at commute contracts but would much prefer a USA airline.

There are plenty of US Cargo carriers (K4 included) who fly westbound to asia... jumpseating generally shouldn't be an issue if your travel is somewhat flexible.
