The union requested the proffer because one of the sides must to get released.. its a formality. The Union or the Company can request a proffer of binding arbitration but BOTH sides would have to agree... in this case even though the union made the proffer it will not accept binding arbitration. Its a means to an end. The only way to get released is for a binding arbitration to be offered by the NMB, which can only be done if one of the sides requests it.

Neither side will request it. Another delay that puts more money in Connie's pocket. He's gonna drag this out. That's his plan.

The union has already requested it. Currently pending with the NMB. When Connie has to dispatch a Learjet to get someone in position to cover a trip, That's less money in his pocket.

To you and I it's a lot of money. $20,000 for a guy worth billions to move a pilot in a lear is like us spending $2. To him it's pocket change. It would be great if he needed the contract but he doesn't, not right now.

You are right.. NEITHER side will agree to binding arbitration... IF the proffer is accepted.. and NEITHER SIDE accepts it.. then the 30 day cooling off period begins.

Lets NOT confuse things here... this ONLY gets delayed IF the NMB rejects the proffer of binding arbitration... then it will be status quo for god knows how long. IF they accept the proffer... then it only takes ONE of the TWO parties to reject it.. which the union will (even though we put forward the proffer doesn't mean we are accepting arbitration)... triggers the 30 day cooling off period..at the end of the 30 days the parties are released to self help..

We have slots for 4 more 767s to be converted. Can't fly them without the pilots. We also lose several million if we don't have the airframes.

Conversely how many millions are they saving by dragging this out.

My ignorance of this entire process is very extensive so I can't voice an intelligent viewpoint on it. But, I've been here long enough to know that if there's a way for Connie to delay this, he will find it. The fact that there's a third party involved does help pressure him but, Connie has some very DEEP pockets. I'd be very surprised and happy if they except the proffer. Hope you guys are right and I'm the idiot.

Figure millions of dollars he saves by underpaying us each month multiplied by 6 years. And that's just the pay alone.

While I don't believe that we will have the breakthrough that we are hoping for, negotiations should continue today as they were scheduled to met 07/26-07/28. Are you privy to information the rest of us are not?

Unless the mediator cut it short, they are meeting today in FLL. As for no shows... while we have seen our share over the last year... that has always been the case.... when I interviewed almost 6 years ago... we had only 4 of 6 show for the interview. ON day 1 of initial.. one guy didnt show... another quit during the first week.
