Anywhere out west. Specifically Spokane, Boise, Seattle, Denver, Sacramento and Utah are listed on my application. The way I understood the process, it would get looked at by a "central" HR person and they would decide if it was "referred" to the different FSDOs. Then when they needed a body, they would pull from the list... more or less without getting into the points system. Can the offices look at the application if it hasn't been referred? If they can I'll definitely call.

I just wonder if I didn't check a box or something if it's just sitting at received.

Thanks for your help!

I had been applying for years before I heard anything. All of a sudden this year I heard from three different FSDO's for interviews.

I definitely recommend making contact with the offices you're interested in.

I think the process is that once you're 'received', you're in the pool of applicants. Then when the FSDO's make a request for specific things they're looking for on an application, if you meet those things, HR will call and ask if you're interested in an interview. If you are, you're added to the 'referred' list and may or may not get an interview once the FSDO reviews all the applications. So, it helps to be known somewhat by the office you want.

The offices can't look at applications, they just get to make requests for what they need.

Anybody else jump into the pool? I started 9/29, still waiting on strings. PM me if you want to stay in contact. I'm finding the waiting, sitting in the office, hard.

Patience... I know it's hard, but gubment works on gubment time, which can be painfully slow... I hope that you have been assigned a good mentor (OJT trainer) and you have been getting out in the field a fair amount. I also hope you have had ample learning opprtunities while in the office. Exposure to "Demand Work" like handling Complaints, Occurrences, Pilot Deviations, and "hands on" experience with office automation (i.e. ATQA) will be very helpful. If the office workload is "light", Pick a topic in the 8900.1 to read, then to go to your mentor to discuss and get at least Level 1 signed off. With over 100 possible tasks, there is bound to be something new to learn while you wait. Some tasks can be "simulated" per the OJT Order. You should never be "bored" in the office as an apprentice ASI. If you are, then something is dreadfully wrong.

String training is a necessary "checkmark" in the box, but is certainly not the "holy grail". The best "takeaway" from string is the peer networking aspect imho...

Hang in there! Your first year will be a distant memory sooner than you think!

I'm interested in getting in on the GA side, I need to get my CFI back going and ad my CFII and MEII to qualify. What I wonder though is even though I have over 10,000hrs and a decade flying 135 cargo I have no real time in anything over 12,500lbs, is this going to hinder me if I was to ever get in with the FAA? Or do you need that 1 year operating aircraft over 12,500lbs to be a POI?

The lack of flight experience you speak of is not an issue. I know of several POI's that have never flown or operated turbine powered aircraft...

That's good to hear! Turbine time I have, heck even the planes I fly some where certified over 12.5, just not the particular ones I fly, they are 12.5 max. I'm going to get on my CFI's and get my app in.

The ASI postings have all closed. Any idea if they will open back up in the near future?

I'm not sure. I was told the Great Lakes region is 'two over' on their quota, but they know with retirements, etc., that there will most likely be more hiring.

Guys I am new to the discussion and forums, a friend told me to come and check this out. I have looked at the application stuff on usa.gov but I am real curious as to how they score the KSA's (i think that is what they are called) Also what is the word as far as inspectors in the DFW region any hiring in that area?

Thank you in advance for any and all information.
