That is very good. Because much like in the 1970's when getting hired at a major airline was a pipe dream worthy of only the finest psychedelics only those who are truly driven will succeed. So- less student starts means less competition.
I would have been very happy to fly WWII era aircarft around the Caribbean. In fact, that was my career goal. No military and less than 20/20 vision. No major for me! The industry changed and they started taking civilians with less than 20/20. And so, here I am. And here could anyone be.
BTW- loaded up on 5.56mm and .25-06. They were sold out of .38 shot shells.

Last week I bought a Ruger 10/22 Take Down. The month before that I bought a GSG 1911.
I would have been happy to have walked out of college and straight into a 727FE job for Alaska Airlines. Instead I ended up flying oddball bush and forest service jobs that others might envy. Anyone can make it to the big time but even you must admit that the odds are long and consequences dire for those who fall short.
People are making a huge investment. It is akin to buying 160K in lottery tickets. If you win then gambling is great. I wanted a career what I got was an adventure instead and I don't want no adventure. I do not think that most others who enter the profession want an adventure either. They need to start earning a small fortune in order to pay off their massive student loans.

I do not think the next generation wants to fly.
They are more into how computers interface with the airplane. Young people who take a look at the panel of my Cessna 150 are taken back at how primitive it is. I remember feeling the same when I took my first look inside the flight deck of an Aeronca Champ.
They would rather blow 7 grand on building an awesome flight simulator than to actually fly a plane. Even drivers licenses are down for teenagers. Why drive when all your friends are online anyway?

With the price of entry being so high possible is not good enough. We need a probable outcome. I do not think anyone would become a dentist if the chance they could pay off their student loans was only a mere possibility.

Really? What's your source, if you don't mind me asking?

Hate to agree with Sky but, he is correct on this one. I don't have a source but I have read and have personal knowledge of this.

Just looked at a picture of me in the left seat of a 727 (9 years ago). Looks like a dinosaur (The plane, not the pilot
) compared to the MD-11. Big hiring boom coming, if the world doesn't implode. Anybody got a flight school they want to sell?

Thanks for the confirmation. Interesting, but I'd never know this by the area I live in!

Someone once said,"life's an adventure or it's nothing at all". That's the best part of flying--adventure. Seeing dawn over the Atlantic, watching the sunset in Australia. A month ago I was walking the battlefield at El Alamein; two weeks ago a French dinner in Quebec. Lots of memories and life that can't be found anywhere else.
