I had a fume event in the 737 recently. It was restricted to the cockpit only. Nobody in the cabin smelled it at all.
We donned our O2 masks, declared, diverted and landed. ER trip, the whole 9 yards.
Not a comfortable experience or position to be in. Made me seriously evaluate if I want to continue working in an industry that actively denies an event I legitimately experienced. I'm furious that the issue isn't taken more seriously by our unions, companies, and aircraft manufacturers.

Now you understand how I feel to a T. A reoccurring “thing” that all aircraft manufactures and airlines deny and even many of our head-in-the-sand colleagues deny.
Welcome. How does it feel to have this happen to you and have few people take you seriously?

Why should I tire myself out, performing my job to the highest of my capabilities under large amounts of stress, day after day only to risk being incapacitated or killed by an event that isn't being addressed because it'll be too much of a hit to corporate profit? I don't really have a good answer to that question.

At least you’re a Captain Whack. If I smell that “wet sock” smell and bring it up, 99% chance the Skipper says “it’s just the water separator” and ignores my concerns.

Then wear your mask until you land and he will have to explain why he wrote up the O2 as you grab your bags and leave

Seriously Zap. This is not a Cptn or FO thing. It’s BAD, BAD stuff. Do what you need to protect yourself and don’t worry about ****ing your Cptn off. You’ve been around the 121 world long enough to know that sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do even if it causes friction.

hope your doing well with no physical ramifications. I got my mask on within seconds of smelling it on my event and felt fine and turned down the ER visit. In hindsight I probably should’ve gone. So far no effects months later. No amount of money is worth our long term health.

My company is one of only 2 airlines (that I know of - more may have signed on as of late) that have signed an LOI to install Palls Bleed Air Filter STC. It’s close, but it is not on the market yet. They have finally started testing it and taking it from the lab to an actual Airbus A/C.
Interestingly the Airbus they used for their testing was an American A321. It’s just a hunch, but I suspect AA is also going to be a customer. I mean Pall could have just rented time in one of their Buses, but I don’t think AA would allow their aircraft and name to be involved in this video if they weren’t somehow involved.
The test was a success. The data they got in the lab was what they saw in the actual A/C. Very very promising.

They don’t have a TCP specific test (yet). Ask them to draw blood and have them check your carbon monoxide level.
Additionally, you’ll want to have them draw additional blood so you can send it to a doctor(s) that is/are doing research on this. It helps them in establishing a database and they are working to come up with an actual test.
The blood needs to be draw a certain way for this though and I can’t remember what they call that type of draw.
Plasma something I think(?)
