I had this happen to me earlier this year. Checked in the day prior and looked where I am on the standby list (yes checked in, I wouldn’t be on the standby list if I couldn’t check in). Went through security in uniform and stood by the podium talking to the gate agent as they’re boarding everyone up. Once everyone is on, he prints the standby boarding passes and as he’s handing me mine, he stops and says “oh wait”. Then calls TSA. An agent leads me away from the gate and does a ridiculously thorough search of me and my bags. During the long search, the flight leaves.
I fail to see how this makes us safer.

It had been so many years since I had last seen the SSSS that I just figured it wasn't being utilized anymore. But then two months ago when non-reving back to the states from Europe on a US carrier, I got an SSSS boarding card. Had to receive additional screening at the gate itself. My wife and son were traveling with me and they did not receive the SSSS. Quite odd.

Even if you had a “ticket” no one is stopping you from going thru KCM. I use KCM on company DHs when I have a ticket. I don’t show them jack except for my ID, Passport (and now of course) another form of ID if not in uniform 🙄
I don’t know if this thread is 135/91 guys flying around on company paid for tickets, bur this situation pretty much does not effect 121 guys. I JS weekly without a ticket at all. Go thru KCM and head to gate to list.

I doubt anything like this changed KCM. A much more likely scenario is there is a new Bob.
Bob works for the federal government and makes a six figure salary without doing much of anything. Bobs boss, who also doesn’t do much, said his bosses told him Bob needs to “find something to come up with”.
So Bob thinks really really hard and figures it out! Crew members who aren’t in uniform now are incredibly dangerous and cannot be trusted! Bob reverses the uniform requirements and can now successfully say he did something.
Never mind it was changed back within 48 hours. Bobs a winner and can proudly justify his existence.
