One of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Whatever your sport is or whoever your team is, go follow them around for a season.
My brother was based in DC and got orders for Subic Bay. He and his girlfriend started in Atlanta, went up to Boston, and crossed the US to California stopping at all the MLB parks along the way. By San Diego he realized that if she was willing to do a baseball road trip like that he didn’t want to leave her behind so he had the stadium put his proposal up. They eloped so she could follow him, then they came back to the US for a formal wedding.
They we’re happily married for 30 years when melanoma struck him down.

I apologize for a little thread drift here, but sorry to hear about the melanoma. I survived a malignant melanoma by pure dumb luck when my wife spotted a discolored reddish area on the crown of my head. She's only 5' tall so rarely saw that part of my head, I just happened to bend over to pick up something while she was in front of me. Pilots get melanomas at twice the rate of the general public, about the same as farmers and others who spend a lot of time outdoors. I visit the Skin Doc every year or two to be scanned from head to foot. Good idea to use a mirror or another person to check yourself every so often. Anything discolored should be checked out. /End of PSA

That stuff usually gets moving after 60, I have to check in every 6 months and they always find something. So far so good. But I'm starting to look like I got fragged.

Yeah, he probably got it from years of standing watch on ships.

Lot of sun reflected off the surface, especially at the lower latitudes.

After that close call with melanoma I got a serious case of vampire syndrome. I had to get a hat waiver at NetJets (no uniform hats there) since the Skin Doc told me to always wear a hat when exposed to sunlight. The occasional uniform Nazi at NJA would start to say something to me and I'd just look at them and say "hat waiver". I don't even walk the 50ft to my mailbox without putting a hat on. I've only had one sunburn since the cancer, and that was painting my house on a cloudy day. Enough UV got thru the clouds. Even working at the amusement park last summer I wore a hat and used a heavy dose of sunblock and didn't get burned.

Melanoma is one of those cancers that by the time you realize you have it, it can be too late.

Melanoma is easy enough to control with inspections. It is when you let it go and it catches the #36B lymph node and goes somewhere else.

Consider learning to trade options. It's not easy, but doesn't take a rocket scientist either...although I happen to be one. If you can fly airplanes you can learn options. It really is a fascinating pastime. I wouldn't recommend the route that I took to learn the skill. I attend The OnlineTrading Academy. It's good stuff but extremely expensive. There are other avenues. If that kind of thing tickles your fancy, I suggest you read Michael Sincere's "Understanding Options". I try to read it yearly. You can get it on Amazon for 11 bucks or so. Great first read...there are many books on the subject but this one is easy. Chances are you are not going to be a millionaire, but you can put food on the table. It's nice to make a grand a week legging into an Iron Condor or what we traders affectionally call a "Rubber Ducky". You can trade options for as little as $2000. However, like anything, you have to practice, practice and more practice before ever putting you're hard earned cash into a trade.

Then learn to play an instrument. When I fly I hear a lot of fellas say, man I'd like to play the guitar. Like trading that is another fascinating pastime. Learning is endless and it takes dedication and practice.

Anyway, I am a UAL 2172er. It sucks to be furloughed...like a kick in the teeth. There is a lot you can do after you begin to peel back the onion.
