In practice, those can be quite palatable. I can show you some trips on the whale where you’ll say ‘they pay you for doing that???’ Which brings up another point: once you start doing international there’s not much difference between the pax and cargo side. Coincidentally, a bunch of the European nite sort on the Z keeps you on east coast bankers hours for almost the entire trip. Our vacation and conflict bidding certainly improve things. No doubt we have some horrific flying but for the most part it’s pretty limited. We fly a lot less block hours too.

Living in CLT should make for an easy commute with UPS and AA jumpseats. And it will make life much easier when you have commercial deadhead trips since they would likely be single legs to and from CLT.
This is a really, really great suggestion. I’ve jumped on UPS a few times and the last time I even connected to another flight through the World Port. HOLY FOOK! Talk about an impressive and massive facility!

Also, as someone else mentioned, they are very accommodating and even set me up with one of the private beds in the giant sleep room. So yes, offline airlines can indeed sleep in there. Plus, if you tell your CLT-SDF crew that you have a class date, I would hope that they’d bend over backwards to show you around and familiarize you as much possible.

As was pointed out in this thread, if you want to do international widebody flying, the schedules won’t be that much different if you’re hauling people or boxes. Give that some serious thought as that’s your end goal.

There are so many reasons to chose UPS in my opinion. Just realize that the first year or two might suck doing the night sort flying but then you’re onto a widebody making excellent money and enjoying an easier commute than if you were at a pax hauler.

The regionals are bleeding captains now, so it’s an effort to keep them for as long as they can. It is significant in the short term, but in the long term the seniority now pays for it.

Money isn't going to work for anyone at a regional. Like you said short term fix. Over at endeavor we are losing as many CA that we can upgrade.. And not to mention a good amount of FOs every month.

The internet really is an evil place. You live in AA’s second largest hub with a range of narrow body and wide body flying, and yet folks on here are recommending that you sign up for a life of commuting to UAL or UPS. Y’all are just mean.

this above. I have seen the bid packs for ups and NO it isnt the same as AA WB. Just the fact you’re contemplating it means you should go because you will always wonder. Go to ups and keep updating your AA app because you will want to come back

And in 5 years, when he’s 51yo being a “gate lice” at the SDF gate, 7 hours before his sign in time, he’ll wish he traded that 5% to be a narrow body CLT CA, like his piers.

the way AA is planning to hire … they will call

a whole lot can happen in 10 months. Medical, economy, discipline (24 month flow delay)

you don’t say no to a major

They will call? So your suggestion is that he leave, then start applying to AA as a off the street and hopefully beat his 10 month flow window by a couple months? Oh and waive the 100k he would’ve gotten to flow. Like I said, y’all are mean!
