Yes, exactly that. The likelihood he

1) hates ups AND
2) can’t get an AA job within a year

is low

OTS civil will be the bulk of AA hires this year

and there’s always the “hi, I’m leaving but will take your next open class date” option

Dont UPS guys have to be in place 18hrs prior to their trip. Kinda defeats the purpose of those commercial deadheads. Sorry, just cant believe the crap advice people are handing out here. If he was a commuter at AA and maybe become a non commuter at UPS then OK but thats not the case here.

I still say he leaves because he will always wonder. If he leaves he can tell the Admiral "I got that TShirt already, KaBoom"

Yup. It applies to what we call EDW trips. Which are basically night sort flights and it’s 19:15 prior to departure or it’s a 3 hr pay hit.

on the plus side those trips are all or almost all paid on rig so you are getting paid to commercial to work and layover. Also you can cut 24hrs or more off the end of your trip by commercialling home right after your trip instead of laying over.

IMO

What’s bad advise is telling a guy to decline a firm class date at Company A or B on the promise of a different class date 9 months into the future at Company C based on an incorrect understanding of contractual language.

Especially when that Company C is technically insolvent and the regional he has to stick at has no guarantee of surviving those next 9 months.

You do not say no to a major job offer at a regional.

The 100k bonus is irrelevant. Take off taxes and such, and you will make more than the difference as year 1 pay + 401K DC over your career.

Okay, well that’s not as bad as what Armyguy makes it sound like.

Getting paid to commercial deadhead vs stay at a regional for 10 months during an enduring unstable period in the commercial passenger world… hmmm, what to do.

Or the third option, he also has a CJO from UA if UPS for some reason sounds so bad.
Waiting for AA would be insane.
