His latest post on his ULCC subform
"Ehhh we could get that and some people will still leave. Some need to stroke their ego and say they work for a legacy. Others want to fly heavies over seas and be served a hot meal in flight. I doubt it really comes down to just $$$$ most of the time."
Don't know the guy, just laughed that the same guy who starts a thread about bailing for a Legacy is the same guy who posts this 2 weeks later.

i doubt you can be a WB CA with decent seniority in 16 years (if you are 49 and leave) at any legacy, even if hired today. You might barely hold it for the last few years of your career.

for what it’s worth, based on current retirements and current seniority numbers to hold certain positions it would take about 25 years to hold WB CA at DL, that’s plug in NY. Also, excluding NY it would take about 20 years to be 50% as a NB CA in most of our bases, closer to 25 in ATL.

So if someone is under 40 a captain at a ULCC does it still make sense to start over at a legacy right now?
In my case I just upgraded to captain at F9 a few months ago, 38 years old, have an offer from both UA and AA. The math does not favor the legacies at current pay rates unless I make the move to wide body left seat. I will commute no matter what. I know it’s a loaded question with a lot of different things to consider.
It’s a tough choice to chew on, not sure it’s worth the gamble just for the ego boost?

I was in your shoes back in 2019 with a UAL offer. I was mid 40's living in domicile and with little kids, so I ultimately stayed at F9. It really is a gamble, but I still believe under 40 and all things being equal you will enjoy working for a mainline. Professionalism (from the company), travel benefits, are some of the things you get that we lack here. Regarding all 3 is there one you would consider moving to a base for QOL? Ultimately decide what is best for you and your family and good luck, it's great having options.

I started at AA 2 years ago and won't be able to hold widebody captain until 2042 according to our latest bid results using the retirement calculator. Nobody hired this year at 49 years old should expect to hold 777/787 captain at AA in their career.
