Not exactly. They will still get the re-authorization done eventually. If they pass an extension, they can kick the can for a few weeks or even months.

TBD whether age 67 is in the final version, but where they left off it appears more likely than not.

But age 67 is not the sticking point of the bill, if anything it appears to have more to do with longer range flights in and out of DCA.

As of April 2020, the SCOTUS ruled that the US Government can be sued by individuals over 40 for age discrimination and lowered the bar significantly to prove said offense. If the mandatory retirement age of any direct federal employee or those employed under direct federally controlled industries is not revised to reflect current and future longevity progression, the US Government will be inundated with class action lawsuits. There are groups that are monitoring this and will file briefs if mandatory age limits are not addressed. You heard it here first.

SMH. I'm sure there are plenty of plaintiffs' attorneys who would be happy to collect fees from you.

if an airline fired one pilot due to being to old, that's age discrimination. If the entire class is capped at a certain age...brother, this was litigated decades ago.

Keep grasping at straws if you must. But this thing is dead. Thank goodness.

It appears you don’t understand litigation. The Government will lose in any case involving age related discrimination if the standards that they set forth I.e First, Second, or Third class medicals are met regardless of the plaintiffs age. You cant have a mandatory age limitation that is based on arbitrary health characteristics that are assumed to be applicable to everyone. Since the last FAA Reauthorization was in 2018 and the SCOTUS ruled in 2020 that lawsuits involving age discrimination can move forward on a Federal level this Reauthorization will be the litmus test. If you can find one politician who is wanting to open the flood gates and bury the FAA with fighting this I will reveal to you where the fountain of youth truly is. You wont, and once the first case is brought there is no going back without significant change to standards and/or what constitutes the FAA setting any kind of mandatory age limits. I’m not grasping at straws, I live every day in reality unlike those who think change will never happen. Those who live that way are always the ones who are defeated. Nothing is ever dead in law making, consensus is always evolving with fluid topics.

I bet you don’t even know how mandatory age limits in Airline operations came about. Spoiler…. It had nothing to do with health.
