UA Hiring Minimums?

Cost isn't the only thing. There is something called execution too.
There will always be someone who is going to be a lower price than you can bid for, especially if that is all they can offer (MESA) for example.
However, MESA is cancelling many flights out of IAD and ORD this summer. I'm sure UAL is NOT saying "oh well, but MESA is a lower cost than perhaps SKYW." I GUARANTEE UAL is not saying that. The low cost MESA provides is actually costing UAL more dollars because MESA cannot execute.
If you have ever been in business for yourself, there comes a point where you have to say "NO" to business because it isn't profitable. Unfortunately, most airline executives don't realize this. The only two regionals that have a clue these days are RJET and SKYW.

I promise I'm not kidding either. I have a friend who is a 17 year captain at United who was considering going to FedEx for the stability and retirement! he has since thought better of it but he was serious.

Straight from the UA website:
To be considered for the pilot position at United Airlines, you must possess
the following minimum qualifications at the time of application. Those who do not meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered as applicants by United Airlines:
* 1500 hours Total Time - Fixed Wing.
* 1000 hours Multi-engine time (PIC) or Military fighter/trainer (PIC).
* 500 hours Turbine Time.
* 100 hours flown in the past year (Recency of experience).
* Current FCC license.
* Current valid passport.
* Current First Class Medical.
* Current ATP Certificate with Multi-engine land rating (AMEL).
* High school diploma or GED equivalent.
* Legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship.
* A college degree from an accredited school is preferred.
Please note that PIC is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls. United only considers pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications.

Well its a 1,000 multi, as "captain", so I i guess 135 in a navajo counts, but I doubt 1,000hrs in a duchess going for a hamburger counts.......... so I guess most that have the 1,000 pic multi, will be in a turbine..............
