SWA 8/9 year FO
W-2 $321,292 (Includes cash excess of 3255) NEC $40,500 perdiem (are we really counting this?) $7,600 800 block hours Too lazy to calculate days away from home and all that, but it is generally somewhere around 15 a month, a few more some months, many less in others. Took full advantage of my vacation weeks to either fly or travel. Spent 6 weeks vacationing in California making memories with my family, mainly by working my butt off and then blowing holes in my schedule. parking cost me $180 uniforms around $300 Paid for my own substandard short and long term disability As was mentioned above, this year was an outlier. We had a double time MOU that I took full advantage of plus I was able to clear a lot of my straight time flying and replace it with premium flying. This was an exceptional year for that and I don't expect next year will be the same. I was also blessed with good health and an understanding spouse. I do work the system to my advantage, but I also maintain a very healthy work/life balance. My goal is to maximize my pay per day at work and I don't stress block hours or anything like that. |
5th year Southwest FO live in base
$220k W2$33k NEC Average 17 days off/month Mostly fly my line. Rarely pick up anything extra, maybe a turn every few months. No JAs this year. Took most of last December as FMLA (unpaid) so this reflects 11 months of pay. I like my time off. |

Once again SWA pay amazes me. The FO’s there make way more than I do as an A320 captain.

Year 3 / 4 (3 months year 4) Total Comp - 310K W2 - 263K (4.7k from 2021 PS) 401K NEC - 39K Per Diem - 8K 16-17 days worked per month AVG 899 Block hours in 365 from final DEC pay date. I do work a bit more than normal. Commuted for 6 months to reserve , sat reserve for another 5 months with a 2 hour drive to base. |
NK Year 1 FO
Training pay until mid Feb Holding line since July 474 block ~51k Gross ~7.6 DC missed probably 5k due to Military leave, 20 hours of premium (200%) flying |
this number seems embarrassingly low compared to even some regionals now. That contract needs some work.

Spirit 5 year pay and commuter CA on reserve
$206k w2 $30.5k 401k $236.6k Total 72 hours min guarantee every month No x/y list calls (premium) Too many days in crashpad in a base that’s being shrunk |
I decided to leave NK a couple months ago but as a 5/6 year captain stuck on reserve. No drops and never getting a call for premium, I was on pace to make around the same amount of money. 200k to fly 200+ people in the class II out of SJU is horrible.

SWA 7yr FO
$288k $6500 of that is per diem $11200 of that is profit sharing $72600 in taxes paid….thanks for that $40,500 B fund Total comp: $328,500 YTD block is around 840….way too high. Planning needs to quit with the high block lines. Work a little OT a month…prob avg 14-15 off Live in base |
I do like the pay at southwest looking at these numbers, but yes those block times are brutal. Spent too many years getting burnt out in the regionals flying that much to want to make the jump to southwest. Not that widebody long haul is for everyone, but I certainly prefer it. Food for thought for pilots considering various jobs.

It is extremely embarrassing, which is why I posted it, people need to know. |

Salary: $353,000 Perdiem: $7,000 Company NEC: $40,500 Health care: free. Fly my line blocked 673hrs. I couldn't imagine doing over 800hrs. Sounds very fatiguing. I call in sick when sick...IMSAFE. I fly with too many with allergies then get sick. AVG 18 days off per month. I rather be off. I never work over vac or pick up vac months. Paid way to much for STD and LTD. Better get fixed this contract Paid for uniforms(I havent had the need to buy anything for a year or two.), parking. Paid way to much to the guberment. |
SWA 9yr FO and a few months as CA
$275K $6200 of that is per diem $7100 of that is profit sharing $63000 in taxes $39143 B fund Total comp including B fund: $314,000 Lived in base until August. Commuting now. Very very rarely pick up any extra flying. I value my time at home (especially now) YTD block is around 548, but a month was vacation and another three weeks in school. |
Sorry I forgot to put down SWA. It was my profile picture but have a more appropriate one now. I guess my total would be just north of $400,000 if you believe in adding wages, perdiem and NEC together.
