I feel like you slipped through the cracks. I have been turned away at the Centurion lounge in PHL and CLT as far back as 2018 with a non-rev pass.

Amex has tightened the rules a bunch in the last few years to cut down on crowding, but there are often lines out the door anyway. I had a platinum card for years but finally decided it isn't worth it any more. I switched to gold and am swimming in points that I can use how I want to.

Anyone with a platinum card in particlar car to comment. Do you find it worth its hefty $695 annual fee with the perks you get as a pilot? I do buy tickets a couple of times per year and I get positive space a ton so that might make it worth some added value. Plus the Centurion and other lounges I suppose. Just thinking about upgrading my old Amex to the Platinum and wondering if its worth it.

You definitely did. It's in their rules to keep airline riffraff out. I once went in the SEA Centurion and it was 9/10 DL crew. This was before they changed the rule. Now the only way to get in there is to get cleared for a seat early or to just use the refundable ticket hack.

Southwest allow for flight changes for free. You could just change it once you get into the lounge. However, the long wait and how crowded it is in the lounge is not worth it anymore. I use to go in there 4-5 times a month.

Okay. Change the terms and conditions: "cardholders who have their annual fee waived under SCRA are ineligible to enter the club for free and must purchase a day pass if crowd levels permit" or some such.

Honestly, the number of active duty folks using the lounges is marginal. I doubt it's enough to even be a rounding error. Most active duty military rarely use commercial air for travel as a regular part of their job and can't afford heavy leisure travel. I am sure Amex knows this. It's a nice benefit for military folks, so who cares?
