Oil Surges above $85/barrel

The bigger question is why do you (collective you not directed and any individual) complain about profits? That is what companies are there for. If they make "obscene" profits then buy their stock. Get rich with them!

Does anybody remember what happened during the congressional inquiry about a year ago? The oil execs basically sat there and laughed at the questions.
And before anybody thinks I'm trying to bring politics into this against forum rules, I'm sure we'd all be paying $10 for a bottle of ketchup had the other guy been elected in 2004
It's all one, big disgusting buddy system.

Hi!
There is oil shale in N. America. To use it, however, we need to develp a hunge source of alternative energy. And, if we do that, we don't need the oil shale.
Why?
To turn the oil shale just in Canada into oil, we would have to burn ALL the available natural gas in ALL of N. America. Currently, that is the fuel they use to process the shale.
Globally, we are already short of natural gas, and we can't afford to waste it all on oil shale-that is why an alternative energy source is needed.
Renewable is the ONLY way to go for long term prospects for our survival. Sooner or later, we'll HAVE to use renewables, and the sooner we do, the less pain we'll suffer.

1 lb fuel has 3 lbs of CO2. Including production most fuels have more CO2 than jet fuel. Liquid Hydrogen from coal 3.3 times CO2 of oil based jet fuel, methane from coal 2.3 x, jet fuel from coal 1.8x, jet fuel from coal catching CO2 is about 1.5x, Bio jet .5x, liquid hydrogen from H2O and nuclear is the cleanest .1 time CO2 of oil. Bio soy jet fuel would require 5.7 sq km (Europe). Hydrogen from H2O would use about 3000 gallons of water per gallon on jet fuel. 1000gal/kelo fuel. I vote for coal. Its the next most clean and available. Coal jet fuel could be about $45 per barrel. Anyone got 10 billion for coal jet fuel plant?

I'm glad someone mentioned the environmental laws. THIS is the reason we are sitting on these vast oil reserves yet we can't do anything about it. God forbid some caribou in Alaska might have to walk around some drilling platforms to sniff their share of the frozen tundra. Why don't we just start buying corn and wheat from Russia so some cows and bees can gleefully roam our vast midwestern plains without being disturbed.

A couple of the wealthier western states in both the money and resource category are wanting to go forward in the fuel from coal push. The problem is federal funding and a willingness to invest in such...
