Your post stated that he did more for his country AND THEREFORE THE INDUSTRY. It's the latter that I have a problem with.

There are a lot of union people out there that volunteered many, many hours to make this a safer, and therefore, "better" industry. Pretty tough to do that when you're not a union member.
I’ll be happy to explain.

If a military pilot serves his country he keeps the world safe for democracy, defends freedom, etc. etc. etc. We all know the rhetoric, so I won’t repeat it. That protects the free market economy that makes America strong and prosperous. This benefits the entire economy, and the entire nation. Included in that economy is the airline industry. Thus, by defending the capitalistic free market, the military member also advances the prosperity of the airline industry.

A given airline pilot may make great strides for his profession and industry as well, but those effects stay predominately (not exclusively, but predominately) within the industry. That’s not to say they were insignificant. But the military member’s contributions are far reaching and more universal. The country can thrive without a strong airline industry (and has more times than we’d all care to have gone through), but our airline industry cannot thrive without a strong, and free, economy. I agree with you that it’s hard to make the industry safer when your not a union member. But it’s even harder to BE a union member unless you live in a free society.

I’m not flaming or dogging anyone. This is kinda like asking who contributes more to society, the elementary school teacher or the star athlete? Nothing wrong with being a star athlete. Yes, they pay LOTS of taxes which helps pay the teachers salary, but you’d be hard pressed to say their contribution to the overall good is equal.

My problem comes when the military guys service is given little/no credit. Hence my response to the above comments that he’s “just some AF guy” and the like.

Perhaps we have our wires crossed, but when I referred to the airline industry, I was referring to it as it pertained to the pilot profession.

That said, you can have a strong military protecting a free market society, and still have an airline industry, that from a pilots perspective, is a a horrible place to work. Need proof? Ask anyone who ever flew night freight for a less than reputable company. The sad part is, that's where I see this profession heading.

My how far this thread has strayed.

The bottom line is the East guys feel like the decision was not fair. They are exploring every legal avenue to fight it. If voting in a new bargaining agent achieves their goal, good for them.

If the West pilots don't like the end result it will be up to them to fight it. It won't be over until it's over.

OK...

I'm confused. I thought that the original thread addressed ALPO de-certification at U.S. Airways. Please forgive me, I must have walked in the wrong room.

The thread strayed because of statements like, "I'll bet you're a military guy..." and other attempts to attack the person instead of the argument.

Default Ladies, please...

Good grief. I go take one sim check and then commute to my Reserve job, and there are like 50 new posts in this thread. I thought I might have gotten my APC and FI bookmarks cross-mojonated. It's like a train wreck--I don't want to watch, but I can't look away! Control yourselves!

Besides, for the first time ever, I am starting to empathize with 1S1E, and it's really freaking me out right now. (Is it even possible to empathize with a fighter guy?)

Anyway, remember, it could always be worse. You could be this dude:

Personally, that's why I always reach for a 40.

Now that was a good post Strip. The good natured ribbing between Fighter Jocks and Long-Haulers is ledgendary. On the other hand, comments like "He must be an AF guy..." don't have a place here. I see it a lot all over these boards but when someone drops to the level of personal attacks his/her comments lose all their validity. Let's keep it clean and above the belt ya'll.

Well said! Please report any post that violates our TOS, including personal attacks. If in doubt, report in anyway and we will take a look. There is not enough time in the day for Admins and Moderators to read every post. We are doing our best to not let this forum turn into another FI and we need everyone's cooperation to make it so. Thanks!

Just what can ALPA due in this case ?

Inaction is their ONLY course ... think Duty of Fair Representation ...

Throw out the Nic award and there will be a DFR lawsuit brought to them from the AWA guys. Stay the course, and the USAir MEC might file a DFR suit against them ... but they might have already burnt that bridge when they went outside of ALPA and supported the new union. Not the best strategic move if you ask me ...

PS. Just happy to be watching from the sidelines like you !

You make statements that are false or have prejudicial emotions attached to them.

Here is one example:

They would not have suddenly displaced AWA Captains. To state that is untrue and misleading. For about the 50th time on this board I'll mention that the AAA proposal had fences in the form of min captain positions for AWA pilots that lasted until the year 2014. In which time, by the way, 2000 AAA pilots will be gone.

TP

For the record ... NOT all of which were Captains, correct ?

That is the only seat that matters. Just ask your FO ...
