A320,

Thanks for telling me about the airlines not being the same as the military, just figured that one out. I never said I was picking up open time, but obviously someone is. To the pilots getting furloughed I am sorry for that but I dont work for management and dont make these decisions. All I'm saying is if someone picks up that's their decision not yours, get over it. Are you paying that person's mortgage? No. Are you going to pay for the furloughed guys mortgages? No. So dont come out and give us this garbage about how you support your brothers and sisters in need. If you dont like the industry find another career because getting upset over it will not change a thing.

And this is the best part time job ever. I don't know how to do anything else. When I am off, I am off. I can't believe they pay me to do this job. My favorite, At least I still have a job.

If your reasoning is that the CAL pilot is picking up open time to pay necessities "guy's mortgage'" then clearly not living within their means and a really weak argument. And yes, many airlines pilots support guys in need. Since you are not, you don't need to defend their actions. The actions of fellow pilots do affect us in our profession. The easiest way is simply fly your line, the guys in need appreciate that little bit of consideration, especially when facing or are being furloughed. No union or anything required, just common decency. I bypass junior manning and OT even with no threat of furlough simply because we are not hiring. <bg> I would rather they hire instead.

Talking Can I help ?

Hey look, I flew the B737 a few years ago. It's a great a/c no doubt !

Do you mind if I pick up some of that open time in the right seat for $150 an hour ?

I know where the radio and gear handle is, I won't fart or snore too much. I don't even want a seniority number.

I JUST WANT TO HELP YOU OUT IN YOU TIME OF NEED !

Sound crazy Herkulesdrvr ?

If it does, there's still hope for you. If not ...

P.S.

Don't forget that the SARCASM light should be flashing after the second line !

Your reasoning sounds like what one would expect from someone crossing a picket line - 'gotta pay the bills', 'the company will go under', etc, etc . - there's always an excuse...

I'm ashamed for you and on your behalf since you seem to lack what we call decency. I firmly believe that picking up open time when one’s coworkers are being kicked to the curb is actually lower than "scum" - frankly it should be criminal.

In the aftermath of hurricanes and other natural disasters there’re always looters being persecuted for stealing from their neighbors and it’s amazing how they always rationalize their crimes by saying they had bills to pay and besides “everyone else was doing it as well.” In my view a person who’s picking up open time when his or her coworkers are furloughed is a looter as well; basically a thief who’s stealing his/her former coworkers’ livelihoods.

Hey Herky jerk:

"I think this is a little ridiculous that you are calling your fellow pilots scum for picking up open time, are you paying his/her bills? I dont think so."

Do you think the 150% pay captains are going to pay the poor furloughed dudes mortage when he hits the street?
Ill bet not!

There is no reason the operation must go on when airline management rakes in millions while screwing the employees. They love to hire air force dudes like you that believe anything you are told by a superior.

Too much name-calling to keep this thread going. No matter how you feel about someone or something, please keep the following excerpt from the TOS in mind when posting on this forum:

We're all here primarily to discuss the piloting profession; we all share in the good and the bad that this industry has to offer. Please use the "good neighbor" policy when posting to this site. If you wouldn't say it to your neighbor face to face, than don't say it here (and we are talking about a hypothetical neighbor that you like and respect, not necessarily your current neighbor).
If someone wants to restart another thread on this topic, that's fine. But please, keep it civil. Thanks!
